The loco dept Swindon and Cricklade Railway have set up a Facebook page for Owsden Hall so that the general public and enthusiasts alike can keep up with her restoration progress.

The point is that you may get more exposure for the effort in updating by using a web page for content and using social media (and forums) to point people at the content, rather than using social media to host the content and thus restricting your audience.

A common misperception as Keith has said. Providing the privacy access for a Facebook page is set up correctly then there's no reason why a non-member cannot view it.

The main goal is to keep the facebook page updated as well as this thread. Granted it's not ideal, but the loco dept at the S&CR are determined to keep Owsden in the public eye. Watch this space =]

Unfortunately these days with the younger generation starting to take over society in many ways, more and more businesses are becoming social media friendly and just keeping a basic website available, choosing to update via FB or Twitter with updates incorproated into the said website. Done correctly it can be viewed by everyone as has been said, done incorrectly you're alienating. I can see why people choose to use social networking, it does exactly that. Yes there are those who don't get the "hype" and fair play. It is part of our society now no matter how much you detest it.

If the younger generation didn't take over society more or less consistently, then you'd end up with a problem. ;)

One of the biggest blockers to updating websites is the tendency for people who have learned the mystical craft of webmastering to want to remain the only person who can do that - this is true of pretty much all web developers from my personal experience.
A facebook or twitter account can be updated by someone with a basic grasp of interwebbing, meaning more people can update more often.

This is why I do a BHR blog in wordpress, it sorts out all the frustration-inducing code for me, anyone with an internet connection can view it, it's free to use, no having to pay for server space, web admins, coders, testers, etc.

ANYWAY. Keep up the good work on Owsden Hall, saw the frames and wheels etc. not long after they'd arrived, it's going to be a heck of a job!

Owsden Hall's boiler arrived from the GWSR to the Swindon and Cricklade Railway yesterday and was lifted into the frames where it will stay temporarily while all the pipe work is competed.

Updated pictures can be found on the Facebook page here. https://www.facebook.com/OwsdenHall?fref=ts
