that explains why no ones reported on it, they are all bound and hooded and en route to RAF Northolt for a CIA flight to dubia

Can I just ask a question please? On Wiki it says its tender is based on that of a jubilee yet photos show said tender with timpken roller bearings. So can I ask what is 73096's tender? Is it BR or LMS and most Importantly am I just really sad for wanting to know this?

The roller bearing faces are dummies, the tender is ex 45593 Kolhapur, however only the frame was reused with a BR 1A/G style tank built in the 1980s and the original LMS tanks scrapped.

The tender is the original one that Kolhapur was withdrawn with (a Stanier 4000gal) in 1967 but the owners found it in poor condition and purchased a replacement.

Isn't it a Stanier 3,500 gallon tender chassis?

Well I suppose that makes it interesting..

45593 supposedly swapped it's own tender for that of 45562 after withdrawal and on its way for scrap. (various other bits of Alberta also went missing before it arrived in the scrap yard, which are today supposedly on 45699 and 45551 as well).

Using google for photographic reference, 45562 seems to have a welded tender until the end, 45593 has a riveted tender, but obviously in preservation 45593 has a welded tender and supports the swap idea...

but if 45593 gave up it's (ex 45562) tender for 73096.. then what is it running with today ?

I think you'll find that Alberta's tender and the motion parts from Alberta and Achilles were purchased from Cashmores Great Bridge.

I am sure that its a welded tank on 73096, and the rivets on the tank are fake to make it look original.

I seem to recall that 45593's tender tank is the one used with 48305 on a set of Fowler (or possibly even older) tender frames.

I'd suggest that they were removed at Tyseley before 45562 went to Cashmores. As to who they were purchased from, I do not know. Photo taken at Tyseley in late 1967. (I have the exact date somewhere!)

Stories about this and an unhappy scrappie have circulated for years, I'm sure Bob M will be able to tell us the truth.

Connecting and coupling rods were routinely removed for transit to the scrappie though weren't they? The question is were they stowed in the tender or not...

As I understand it Kolhapur's owners brought a second tender in October 1967 or so (a welded version formally attached to Alberta) and then 45593 was coupled to the replacement tender with the original (riveted) one being set aside before being purchased for use with 73096.

As what happened with the tank, I seem to recall it being scrapped but may have been sold for further use.
