Reported on GCR facebook page that 92214 has been sold

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Great-Central-Railway/283124458415924

9F No.92214 to stay at Great Central Railway for the foreseeable future under new ownership

BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No.92214 “Cock o the North” has been purchased by GCR Director, Mr Michael Gregory of Cromwell Tools for the dedicated use at Great Central Railway Plc. The Locomotive has been purchased from Mr Stuart Whitter of PV Premier Ltd and has come to us from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Originally intended to visit the GCR for the Winter Gala over the weekend of 25th to 26th January, the locomotive will now stay permanently.

Bill Ford, Managing Director of the Great Central Railway plc said “No.92214 is a magnificent addition to the GCR’s already impressive locomotive fleet and being in such immaculate condition will prove a great attraction to our many visitors. 92214 will give us a great boost as we move forward to reunify the railway north and south of the Midland Main Line and open the planned museum at Leicester North”.

Stuart said “Our experience has given us confidence that No.92214 will be in the best of hands at GCR”.

“On behalf of the railway we would like to thank Stuart for the very professional way in which the transaction has been completed” Bill continued “It was also fantastic to see Stuart driving again on the GCR!”

“The railway’s sincere thanks are extended to Michael Gregory and his team at Cromwell Tools for securing this wonderful loco for GCR’s benefit” Bill concluded.

To welcome the loco to its permanent new residence, GCR is staging a ‘BR Standards Weekend’ on 22nd & 23rd February. It will star at the event alongside No. 70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’ & No. 78019 as well as a heritage diesel locomotive operating a busy timetable.

It does not surprise me that Stuart has sold it.

I wonder whether the nameplates will go, along with the mixed traffic livery?

The new owner is no stranger to fake liveries - he's got a train of pseudo Pullmans to run with it.

I'm sure this must be a blow to the NYMR, even with the "new" black 5, they are not overly blessed this year with motive power.

Excellent news, a 9F on the GCR just feels right, can't wait to see it on the wind cutter.

How many wagons are serviceable in the wind cutter rake these days? A few years ago someone on this forum said the wind cutter rake had been reduced due to the availability of man power in keeping the rake serviceable.

Has it not been a little unsuitable for the NYMR?
I seem to remember a thread on here discussing how it was unsuitable for the Esk Valley Line.
With my 'Clan' hat on I am quite pleased that GCR are 'enlarging' their stud of BR Standards. By the time 72010 arrives for construction they will be experts with them. (If not already).

Agreed. I used to volunteer on the GC a few years ago, 92212 on the windcutter was fantastic. It was a sad day when she left, so nice that ones returning. I will definitely pay a visit to see her.

With 73156 and eventually 72010, there's some mouthwatering motive power on the horizon.
