I was being ticket inspector at the Swanage Railway yesterday and it was near to end of the day.
A passenger of a certain age got on the train at Corfe Castle, the guard was doing his duties when he was moaned at by the passenger about the state of the castle...

Guard: Why what wrong with it?

Passenger: It is in ruins!! I wouldn't have come if I had realised it was in ruins! Waste of a day....

Corfe Castle is a well known ruin!?!? #-o :smt100 (As are nearly all other ‘real’ castles!!!)

It not the railway’s fault and if he wants to complain write to Oliver Cromwell, Sidney Sussex College….!!!!

I can well belive that, I had a passenger complain about the scenery, saying that she expected more, not just the river and the valley. Really, in our case, the clue is in the name Severn Valley, and the scenery is more than up to the expectations of the other 249,999 passengers that year!

'What did you expect to see from a Severn Valley Railway train window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically over the plains...?'

The only 'complete' castle in England is Warwick Castle and that uis because it was lived in up until the early 20th century and is not so much a castle as a statley home.

You can see Bears, Pengiuns, Gold Fish and Wombles too, if you know where to look.
Appologies to everyone else, the Bewdley guys are probably the only ones that will understand that.

I think the Queen might be a little upset at finding her favorite weekend villa in Windsor is not 'complete', as would a few other assorted people who live in some of the other real castles!

We had a female passenger who after a trip to York last year wrote to complain about the amount of rubbish alongside the track, including mattress's, car tyre's and fridges and demanded a refund.
Needless to say she was sent a letter explaining that we don't have the resources to clear the litter from the national rail network before we set out on a charter.

We'll have a nice big shiny Hawksworth Tender next month, I suppose we could chuck it all in that.
With the price of scrap nowaday's we'd make a mint just from the stuff NR leave laying about. \:D/

Back on topic about passenger comments,

On an FR train last week, a lady asked a buffett steward (who shall remain nameless and wasn't me) for 2 coffees, when they were delivered the passenger comment "What, I have to pay for these?" The buffett steward was laughing when he returned to the buffett car in which I was preparing the orders for the Obs car!

Passengers can be so fun at times :D

Yesterday me and my mate were travelling from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead behind 34046/34007 when a passenger asked me "How big will it be when we get to Minehead?" :-k To which I replied "Ermm I don't really know."
Needless to say I spent the rest of the journey staring intently out of the window in complete puzzlement.
I never saw him when we arrived so I didn't get the chance to ask if it was as big as he expected.
