Not entirely sure if this may or may not have been posted before but just stumbled accross the BBC archives of steam footage. If you us the words 'Steam Train' it comes up with quite a number of old programmes, Including a good proportion of the 'train now departing series'.

    Hope this provides some entertainment!

Nice find, i shall make my way through those videos. Does anyone remember a series that aired on the BBC many moons ago called Making Tracks hosted by Bob Symes, i had a few episode's of the series on video but sadly the video has been lost.

Yes i have a few episodes of that on VHS somewhere hidden away, a favourite aspect of it for me was showing Working Foreign steam, I was never going to see QJ's slogging their guts out in the flesh at such a young age so it was brilliant someone brought such footage to us.

"Not available in your area" may be because the BBC thinks your PC is not in UK. If, for example, you are going via a VPN of a US based company then the BBC site sees you as being in the USA.

Making tracks was a wonderful show, that I can remember from my very little days. I have quite a few episodes of this on VHS, maybe one day i'll put them onto youtube.

I must have watched the 4472 1968 Kings Cross to Edinburgh Non Stop programme on the archive 2/3 times but is the narrator of the first part the late Fulton Mackay (of Porridge fame). I swear its his voice and the narrator isn't listed in the BBC credits.

Anyone got any other links to any further steam programmes? I would really REALLY like to find 'Snow drift on bleath gill', and another one that I believe was called ' a wash and brush up'- Detailing the servicing of a standard of some sort. I saw these both a fair few years ago and would really lie to see them again!

In addition, does anyone remember 'All steamed up'- Quite a bit of footage from the east lancs, peak rail and the WHR prior to rebuilding.

    *edit* Found these!

Heart-wrenching - I grew up on a farm much like the one in Sussex (actually not at all far from Hartfield) and so much of the kit we used when I was young was much like the stuff they were shifting. It is a world that has completely disappeared with changing technology... how many kids would know how to use a hurricane lamp today? Sigh.....

My Grandad has these on DVD although I've not it or the video above yet but my Grandad explained what its about and quite an achievement. My Dad was born in Hartfield and used to walk his dog along the trackbed (he was born in 1966 and the line closed in 1967)
