No. In the interests of operational efficiency, and to enable removal of the hated smoke deflectors, First Class Partnerships have designed a modernised version of the Crosti pre-heater which Rileys are now fitting. Obviously it does not need a chimney at the front any more.

 

The reason the chimney is blank is that the tender will be full of batteries, and the engine will be electric driven and when under overhead wires ones of the coaches will be fitted with pantographs to recharge the batteries.

 

Even easier to pick up from the 3rd rail when that's available. If you're going electric you could fill the boiler with batteries as well. But you'd also need a several kW audio system to make chuffing noises -- analogous to the electronic vroom-vroom noises that they're suggesting electric cars ought to make.

From posts on Facebook today it would seem the frames are re-wheeled and the boiler is back in place as well, very productive day

Blimey, the smokebox door must be strong, with it being used to attach the loco to the tow rope.

Fantastic work by all involved, bring on the day it's in one piece with a fire in!

That far ahead of the smokebox, it can only be a Thompson modification.

 

The Steampipe apperture looks pretty snug with the smokebox saddle.... break out the angle grinder,

Joking aside, no.103 as she was in 1944/45 was one of those original A10s which might have been used instead of 4470. Makes you think.

Read the updates today and it looks like - fingers well and truly crossed - that it's all coming together at last. Looking forward to seeing her in steam.

 

Bright I think , like the Pic on the front of my Triang-Hornby box, (though the model was sadly lacking in that respect). However if thats not in keeping with the BR guise no worries...

 

I like them polished too it's like quarted buffers, dosnt have to be authentic just shows someone cares. Going off topic slightly have a look at the condition of Shrewsbury's and Aberstwyths Manors in the early '60's when they were bulled up. Each Shed was trying to outdo the other resulting in lovely looking loco's
