I would say the same about Haywards Heath but it'd be a bit far from Bury or York. Still at least we'll get a little look at a Black A3 on the mainline wherever it takes place unless its a night time test like 4492.

For some reason I really want to see a Scotsman/Tornado double header. Maybe Barrow Hill in the Autumn?

A report of the unveiling of Flying Scotsman at the NRM was shown on the Beeb's Breakfast programme today at 08:45 .
It included a short interview with ex owner Sir William McAlpine .....I'm not too sure of the black though!! <BJ>

I feel rather like the small child in the Hans Andersen tale "The Emperor's New Clothes", but I have to say I dont think this black finish suits 60103 at all.

It is indeed interesting to see the wartime livery on an express locomotive, but I just dont think it looks particularly good on Scotsman. I guess given all your comments here, and the round of applause at the NRM unveiling ceremony, I am in a minority of one. ...So be it!

For the sake of clarity let me just add that by far and away the most important issue is that Scotsman has had a thorough overhaul, and will grace both the National network and Heritage lines for many years to come. For that, the NRM must be applauded. Thanks, Anthony!

Don't worry 46118, it's only a coat of paint... ;-) And of course, everyone is entitled to an opinion,I am still holding out for Hamley's red.

Indeed Anthony, "only a coat of paint", but you know how much bandwidth that can take up !!

As my belatedly added final comment above makes clear, what really matters is the superb work the NRM team and all the other organisations involved, such as Rileys, have put in to get Scotsman into first class mechanical order.

    Well done Sir!!

No problem all, we're just pleased to see her back in one piece after all these years - but the true credit must go to Chris Beet, engineering & Ops Manager, the Project Managers over the years and the engineering teams at York, Shildon, Bury and Pridham's - as the Curator, I just handed it to them to fix!

Might help if the controls were installed in the cab as well!

Great job, 4472 (502, 103, 60103) looks pretty damn good in wartime black. The polished motion is certainly highlighted against the dark bulk of the locomotive. All the teams involved in the heavy overhaul should be proud.

    Regards,

    Dan
