Here she is at Baron St. Bury this morning, waiting to be loaded on to a road vehicle for transport to Railfest.

Well it looks superb whatever the colour and glad to see some anti-rust on the exposed machine machined parts

 

Quite imposing the front view, I'll have to pop down sometime over railfest to see it.

 

Looks stunning and well done to Mr Riley and his team on getting her ready in time.

I am hoping to get over to York later next week and see her in the flesh. Last time I saw Scotsman was 8 years back at the 2004 event.

Last time I saw 4472 I was about 4. She was in LNER apple green/single chimney config. at the time, the same as my Grandad's old Triang model. Upon seeing it at Bridgnorth, I was heard to shout 'It's just like yours Grandad!'

Edit: this is not a dig at its current configuration, just in case anyone gets the wrong impression. Just a little story you might find humourous.

good marketing ploy by NRM to advertise RailFest & to **** of any photographers on the way to York wanting a free picture.

10 points to the NRM.!

 

TBH, nobody is going to produce any photographic masterpieces when the engine is on the back of a low loader!

 

Yes the banner must have been a deliberate ploy to ruin photos, the NRM's treachery knows no bounds!

 

And, lets not forget, without cab windows, without motion and rods, in matt black, with what looks like two tone boiler cladding......................................

 

a very good point ,but the two tone boiler is no more , two hours after photo was taken it had another lick of paint...

 

I'm so glad I'm going to Railfest now thats she's there albeit not in steam or with any motion but at leat she'll be there. Not keen on the smoke deflectors but still. Last time I saw her was in 2000 at about 8 years old. My first sight of her racing through Slough on her way to Newton Abbot (where me and my Grandad were going but by diesel) is something I will never forget.

Slightly off topic but is why isn't 92220 at Railfest. I'[d have thought she would have been a candidate being the last loco built by BR, Last mainline loco to be built until 2008, possibly the most power class in the UK.

I guess no-one is bothered anymore about historical accuracy, and yet just imagine the furore if Ian turned Scotsman out in an accurate livery for the kylchap and deflectors, ie BR green as 60103! heresy, disgraceful, etc etc blah blah...I can hear it now!

It's a funny old World.

Incidentally I am sure that Ian and his team have moved the proverbial to get the loco to York, so much credit to them.

 

Surely Evening Star will be in the Great Hall? No point in going to all the trouble getting it outside.

 

Ah who cares about inaccuracy at this point. I just want to see the Flying Scotsman back in steam!

 

Evening Star is tucked away at STEAM in Swindon. Getting it out would probably have been a logistical nightmare, and left a gap in the display in Swindon. They swapped 92220 and 6000 King George V a few years ago.

Correction - I didn't realise that Evening Star had been moved back up.

 

5786Dan: Many of us likewise, and not only in steam, but run-in and a reliable performer, which surely it will be, after one of the most thorough overhauls/rebuilds in the preservation era. Much credit to Ian Riley and his team, and the people at the NRM who have been involved.

Now, Scotsman will need to earn its keep!

 

92220 was in York in the Great Hall in February of this year and alongside Britannia for a while.
