    Hey
just recently I've been approached for a photo shoot for my classic car, not a loco I know. However, the place I thought of first which was anywhere near me with heritage and a wonderful backdrop is long marston. I'm currently away on a break but returning very soon, so all I've had is the internet for information.

I had done some research that suggest long Maston is no more, a building site if nothing less? It also suggest that the local restoration group has disbanded?

If the place I remember is still operating, where could I get the information? You guys are my best bet, any ideas?

If you're talking about the Stratford upon Avon and broadway railway then they disbanded a few years ago, I think they've sold most of their stock etc. If you want a heritage back drop, a little further south and you reach the gwsr... :D

There is a new group operating at Long Marston with many ex-military personnel, Long Marston Military Railway I think?

Corect but its far from a building site. The military group sre using the old shed building. Also the firm, cant remember the name, which does trefurbs and repaints is still active on site.

If you're intending to check out Long Marston, I suggests you heed this warning from post 109 on the S160 thread (http://railways.national-preservation.com/threads/south-coast-steam-and-s160-3278.205711/page-6):

"Could I also politely restate that Long Marston is a private site, ad-hoc visitors are not welcome and security remains as it was in MOD days."

I think the building site reference is more to do with all the houses that a springing up along the front of the former base on the main road where the Army buildings have been flattened. I think as you go further back towards where the railway ran there are still some of the military buildings standing which I guess is where the S160 etc are.
