Greetings all. I came across this London and North Eastern Railways St Andrews Ambulance Association buttonhole badge. I have seen a St Johns one which was similar but looks like it was made after this one. Any information would be greatly appreciated-Kind regards - Alf

The St. Andrews Ambulance Association is the Scottish equivalent of St Johns in England, so this would have originated on the former North British or Great North of Scotland Railway sections of the LNER. In order to encourage staff to undertake first aid training, the railway companies and later the BR regions, sponsored ambulance associations affiliated to St Johns and St Andrews. There were regular competitions between area teams, judged for efficiency by staff from the national Associations.
