According to the latest Steam Railway, ownership dispute is over and Barrow Hill has announced they are to be purchasing the loco and intend to start a restoration by 2020.

Apparently Barrow Hill has stated that the 1708 trust have confirmed they have all the necessary documents to prove that the 1F is legally theirs. The sale would also write off the debts the trust owe to Barrow Hill over storage of the loco.

Will be wonderful to see this little loco back in steam.

One of the best little engines Ive had the pleasure to crew (and I’ve jot heard anyone say a bad thing about it) . Really hope the dispute is behind them and this engine has a bright future.

Nice to see smaller locos getting a chance. Now we just need NRM to get the J52 up and running...

Assuming the SR article is correct, this is very good news. My first acquaintance with this loco was when it was based at Swanage. How often is your first sight of an engine in perfect lighting conditions with a good exhaust and in a superbly scenic location? In my experience, this is a very rare occurrence but 41708 did all this for me at Town End Bridge, just south of Corfe Castle, in May 1997. If I had a scan of the photo, I'd post it up here but sadly, I don't. On the Swanage Railway, it was usually limited to three coaches, but I managed to travel behind it on a rare occasion when it hauled four - and seemed to cope without any real difficulty. A splendid little engine and one whose return to steam will be welcomed by many.
