LNER brakevan identification

    Rcently we did some work on a brakevan that was acquired from NCB Harton as their number A12. Whilst this is the livery and identity it will carry once restoration is complete, we would like to know more about it's history. Can anyone out there help? (Please ignore the number painted on - we know this isn't correct!!) We have no plates or remains of numbers on paintwork, despite looking carefully!

    From the work carried out so far we believe it may be a wartime build (or rebuild) as some of the framing has extra joints in it (unused mortices etc) and may have been bits of coach lying around. Also, where it has vertical bits of angle on the headstocks to hold the body steady, it has extra holes as though it formerly had a body with wooden uprights.

    Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Looks like a LNER 064 Diagram, mostly, if not all numbered in the 16xxxx 17xxxx series.

    Have you tried rubbing the frame down where the original plate used to be?

    The number it carried for the gala was defined by... other means!
