Buckinghamshire Railway Centre are raising £70000 for the overhaul of Met 1, with the aim to completing the overhaul in time for its 125th Birthday next year.

You don't get a lot for £70,000 these days. (Sadly)

Presumably they have costed what they expect to do, before they came up with this figure.

You can overhaul a loco for 70k if you aren't paying a contractor £50 an hour.

The appeal would be more appealing (sorry) if they were intending to run her on the main line. I know there are issues of compatibility with new signalling on the inner part of the Met Line, but how far in towards London could she still go?

In 2023 on the Met, the closest to London Met 1 could get from Ruislip depot would be Rayners Lane.

4LM program will be working along the Met line in 2023, so there will be limited options to run specials. Chiltern units will be alien trains relying on lights on sticks which is overlaid on the in cab signalling (CBTC) for LUL services. Post 4LM only Harrow to Amersham (fast lines Harrow Watford South Junction) will have the capability to run non CBTC services.

That should mean that steam could run between Quainton Road and Harrow, which would be a very worthwhile run. If top-and-tailed (as usual for SotM) they could even do all three sides of the Watford triangle.

Beyond Amersham the locomotive and stock would need to Network Rail standards (so not impossible). Watford triangle would not be possible as only to from Watford South to Rickmansworth will have lights on sticks. The northern bit of the triangle from Rickmansworth to Watford East and Watford East to Watford South won't have lineside signals. Plus the latter part of the triangle only connects to the local lines.
