The current Radio Caroline ship, the former trawler Ross Revenge, used by them since the early 1980's has recently been granted Charitable Status....

    https://register-of-charities.chari...ch/-/charity-details/5172054/charity-overview

The vessel has been moored on the River Blackwater in Essex for the past 4 years and hosts monthly broadcasts as "Radio Caroline North" in conjunction with Manx Radio (1368 AM + Carolines own frequency of 648 AM), as well as being open for public tours throughout the year.

Hopefully the Charitable status will open the door to various Grants as the vessel needs dry-docking and considerable work done on it to put it back into a good state of order below the waterline - particularly as it is one of the few vessels that ended up on the Goodwin Sands and survived.
The last time it received such treatment was the best part of 40 years ago when it was being fitted out for use as a radio ship in Spain!

It was placed on the UK Historic Ships Register a few years back, not only for its status as the last genuine "Pirate Radio" vessel, but for its prior fishing exploits in the Ross Fisheries fleet, including during the "Cod War".

It was also a record breaker for most consecutive days at sea, unable to go into port for obvious reasons. Probably the greatest radio ship of them all and certainly a better ship than the Mi Amigo which was a right basket case by the time it sank.

Great news for the ship and the Caroline guys. Both the Ross and the Mi Amigo broadcast some wonderful stations hosted by some great Djs,for me it was Radio Mi Amigo and then the last year of Radio Caroline from Easter 1979 until the sinking in 1980,a superb period of radio.

For anyone who used to listen to Caroline in the 1970's, there is a special live broadcast from the Ross Revenge coming up over the weekend of 9th/10th July which features 12 of the original DJ's from that period....
Full list of those taking part is on their website... http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/#home.html
It's not a Caroline North weekend, so presumably the broadcast is going to use the normal Caroline 648 AM frequency as well as the usual Internet "main channel" stream.

So are a number of the current Radio 2 staff.

I don't listen to anything else now. The music is superb , with lots of obscure records. Beats Radio2, Gold & Magic hands down.

Thank you - don’t know if he was a pirate but I remember Nicky Horne from a far away time when Capital Radio was actually a good music radio station.

A 6-week Crowdfunding campaign is being kicked off today at 10.00 on Caroline to raise funds to get the ship into a dry dock for the first time in 40+ years to carry out repairs to the hull.
    https://rossrevenge.com/
The launch is part of the 59th Anniversary broadcasts live from the ship over the Easter weekend, which includes DJ Roger Day, one of the original presenters from the 1960's. You can listen on 648 AM in the South-East (and beyond....), the Manx Radio 1368 AM frequency in the North-West, or the online stream for "Caroline North" on http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/#home.html

Interesting link tonight on Radio Caroline as I was driving home - they were promoting an event they plan to hold at Mangapps.

I've heard the advert on Caroline but nothing posted specifically on the website as yet. They did put a post on their FB page in the last couple of days about it though.......
