    Keeping alive a railway link, all the hanging baskets for Bolton Abbey station in 2013 came from Poppleton Nursery.

    Maintaining an old business tradition.
    Many of the baskets that were hung on stations around the country especially on the ECML used to be supplied from Poppleton.
    In fact the NYMR also had a hand in this until 1991 as the moss used in the baskets used to be collected from the trackside on the Moors and loaded on to a passing train in the late afternoon that was stopped in section for the purpose.
    The Poppleton staff had been dropped off earlier in the day by another train.

    This practice stopped when the actual amount of moss available was declining.
    Moss was bought in from commercial sources after that date.
