It may have crossed my mind! :D

Much discussion has been had about a mobile dental practice in a carriage when I graduate - although I think root canal treatment ought only be done on continuously welded sections of the line. :)

I think you'd be better off with a narrow boat for that kind of treatment ...

What about the fore and aft movement from the GW 2-8-0 Thats going to make it interesting, thanks but i think i would stay with my strictly land based, non mobile dentist . So kitchen. bar, lounge, cinema screen , and a comfortable bed for those times when your to drunk/ its too late to go home and just hope the ops manager don't decide to shunt you somewhere out in the wilds of nowhere , but as you have an interest in wild life you might actually enjoy it :)

In Prague there is a museum dedicated to the famous Czech inventor Jara Cimrman; one of the exhibits is (or certainly was 20 years ago) some sort of rail quad-cycle or pump trolley which he was said to use to visit rural crossing keepers in their cottages to offer dental services. At least I think I remembered that correctly.

Who was Jara Cimrman? This link explains: http://www.prague.net/blog/article/25/museum-of-a-non-existent-person

It’s worth a visit if you find yourself in Prague with a bit of time to kill. Some of the exhibits are quite funny.

(With apologies for going *severely* off topic! But there is also a railway museum in Prague, if that helps.)

If you are interested in a particular loco/coach/wagon, join said railway and then find out by asking around who owns it and then just contact them. I saw a coach I was interested in (at another railway) and which I am now restoring, I joined the railway found out who owned it and his address and then just wrote to him saying I was interested in acquiring it and a few details of what I planned to do. He then rang me when I was at work a few weeks later and we arranged to meet and did a deal. It was never advertised, I contacted him. It is worth finding out if the item is potentially for sale, then you can then discuss a price, depends on how much you have, its condition and how much you want it. In my case it was a total wreck so I didn't have to offer much to get it. Another different coach I was just given on the condition I took it away which again I contacted said railway and discussed it.

Basically you have to make the moves yourself. It is like a women, you ask them and tell em what you want :) You don't ask, you don't get

Yes, it's a Queensland Rail thing. A service provided by the State govt. to give dental care to school children in the more far flung areas. I found a bit of a blog, (with a few more pics), about it here:

    https://blogs.archives.qld.gov.au/2015/10/19/all-aboard-the-root-canal-express/

We never had the rail version, but I do remember the dreaded "dental van" coming every year to school as a kid - my sister even received a cavity filling that was supposed to go into some other child's mouth! (Mum was not happy....)

Do I need to go to spec savers, or is the wheel arrangement under the dental carriage a bit unusual?

Thanks ms very much for that. It looks like a bogie at one end and a fixed wheelset at the other, curious.

Anyway I suppose I better apologise for the thread drift now, this one's probably my fault... :)

Do my eyes deceive me, or is the van that old pickup is being loaded into (or unloaded from) the end vehicle of an articulated set? I don't recall any mention of such vehicles on Aussie railways (most of what I know about Australian rolling stock is from the Puffing Billy website, plus the odd old photo in a few books).

Going off topic a bit, talking of Australian Railways this popped up when I was looking for something on You Tube earlier (the something I was looking for incidentally had nothing to do with Australia or Railways so no idea where it came up with this).

The following carriage, which is currently being worked on is somewhat in a very bad state. I thought it would really "rot away", but it had luck an found some people who want to invest some time on the chassis of inspection saloon 45036. I really don't know what will happen to this underframe, because in order to rebuild the body you need to have a lot of helping hands and the required funds available.
