Just out of interest what type of camera lens do you prefer to use? Are you a zoom lens person or do you use prime lenses and continue swapping different lenses about?

    Thanks

I use a 17 - 85mm and a 75 - 300mm lens. I tend to swop them about fairly regularly before deciding on what I want unless it's somewhere I've been before to try a shot again. Not everything that I see in my imagination works in reality hence having a wide range of lengths to use.

I currently use a Canon 400D with a Sigma 17-70 lens. I do have a cheap 80-210 lens which I got with my 300D several years ago, but I very rarely use it because the quality is so poor. I've tended to settle into a preference for shots in the 25 - 65mm range anyway and I rarely find myself hankering after a long telephoto. Saying that - given the funds I would invest in the Canon f4L 24-105 which would cover everything I would ever need and has the quality to last through all my future foreseeable camera body upgrades. 'If' (and that's a big if!) I had c. £2.5K burning a hole in my pocket I'd happily invest in the Canon 50D + 24-105 lens kit.

Although I swear by an SLR I'm reluctant to interchange/remove the lens too often because of the potential for dust and dirt to find its way into the camera. My sensor is filthy but the £150 quid I've been quoted to have the thing cleaned I'd rather put towards a new camera!

I use a Pentax 17-70mm lense for my K7 and a Sigma 70-300mm lens. With the exception of photo charters I don't really interchange too often when on the lineside for galas or normally service trains etc.

I don't have zoom lenses for either of my cameras.

I think Bronica did do one, but the price was hellish and they don't turn up too often. I think there might be a couple of zooms available for the Mamiya, but I've not found a need for a zoom - I'm quite happy with a couple of prime lenses.

I can vouch that they work, although you might want to get some cleaning fluid as well.

I've a 45-85 and a 160 for my Pentax 645 but I haven't put a film through that in ages. Use a Canon 5D and a 50D. The former mostly for railway and other vintage railway photography and the latter mostly for aircraft photography. Lenses are a Sigma 20mm and Canon L series 24-105, 70-200 and 100-400.

With the benefit of the higher ISO standards of the D700 I tend to use the Nikon 24-120 as my "standard" lens albeit rarely faster than f11 with the backup of the Nikon 35-70 f2.8 for dull days, 80-200 f2.8 for slightly longer zooms, 18-55 f3.5/5.6 for interior shots and 50 f1.4 for station night shots ( hand held)

Just had my SLR sensor cleaned at London Camera Exchange (Winchester branch) for £35.00.
