Have just purchased what appears to be a Stanier Hooter but does not appear to be stamped LMS. However, does have a casting mark in the main body "LMS X9348.
    Any ideas?
I suspect this was the Hooter sold at auction by Talisman Auctions at Newark but would be interested as to the casting mark and what it refers to. (prob not the Loco)

Sounds good on my compressor regardless.

I don't think that the LMS marked the hooters with their initials, at least I've never seen one so marked. I have an example from an Ivatt 4MT "Flying Pig" where the body is marked C7673 which, like your's, bears no relation to a loco number. I think these are casting or part numbers.

I have seen hooters with LMS stamped in and indeed some with the Loco number stamped however it always seems to be namers that have this treatment. Funny that!!!!!

I have a Stanier hooter that I bought at Dinting in the early 70s, believed to be ex an 8F, it cost me £15. I wonder what it's worth now?

Around £150 +/- £30. They look better if complete with the union nut but I am not sure it makes much difference to the price.
