For anyone up in the Highlands next week this looks like two Black 5s and the stock going up to Fort Bill for the Easter Jacobite.

For any photographers, I believe there will be a 37 on the front up until Craigendoran Junction to help with water consumption.

After Craigendoran Jn, the 37 will move to the rear of the train because of lower bridge weights on the top of the WHL.

45157 (45407) heads the opening train of the 2018 season past Polnish earlier today. The first of (at least) 316 trips the train will make in 2018! 45157 Polnish Chapel 30th March 2018 S.jpg

Great to be back up on the Road to the Isles for yet another year of cloud, midgies, good food but of course the occasional sunny spell to top off any visit!

Here's my favourite from yesterday, taken on the high up looking Polnish Chapel. Sadly today saw a lack of results, with a gutting 10 seconds out from full sun at Glenfinnan. But fear not, there's always tomorrow to go!

You are lucky up there. Have a look on the Belmond Pullman thread and see what I got yesterday!

Thanks John! Having seen the weather you had to suffer for Clan Line, it does put a perspective on our battles up here during Friday.

Today was one of those days that the sun shone the whole length of the extension, with very little wind and a cold temperature aiding the efforts. I've included two of the shots taken off the camera so far, but now I think it's time for a well earned dinner!

It was when I climbed up there but it wasn't by the time the train turned up, such is Highland weather!

Off the top of my head, yesterday's attempt was No. 11 of my journeys up and down that hillside for the photograph in perfect conditions. Of those times, only two others have been notable :

October 2016 - No. 62005 crossed Corpach in lovely light, but the combination of a warmish morning after the sun had been up for hours and the engine being lightly worked after the crossing meant no exhaust worth of making it stand out in the landscape. Pity, as the colours were excellent.

December 2016 - No. 45407 crossed in sunlight, a patch just on the Corpach loch wall itself. The train glinted something lovely, but the rest of the valley in shadow felt in my eyes like the shot at the be forced to even allow the winter colours through.

Yesterday meant something of a victory, as Karl has mentioned previously about the marina due to be built in the area in front of the loch wall, the time was ticking on the shot. So getting the whole valley in sunshine and the blues in the sky and loch gave the special feel I'd been looking for from the location. However, should that marina not be in build during October, I may reconsider a second trek up the hill to gain the Autumn tints shot!
