    Train services have been suspended on busy rail route as police investigate a firearms incident near a station.

    Officers are searching for an offender after an incident in the Hunters Lane area in Rugby, Warwickshire, police said.

    Armed officers, a police helicopter and dogs were sent to the scene to "ensure the safety of officers working on the railway line and the train passengers".

    Trains services on the West Coast mainline have resumed after being suspended while armed police searched for a suspected gunman in Warwickshire.

    Police said "heavy duty ball bearings" were fired at a lorry near Rugby station on Wednesday night. The vehicle was damaged but no-one was hurt.
