I understand the owners prefer it in the position it finished its BR service.

Is the plan for it to be an all black 5 operation next year?

It will depend on how quickly the K1 is overhauled. No K1 = an all Black 5 roster.

Thanks for the reply. A shame the K1 is unlikely to be air braked during its next overhaul.

I know but no harm in changing it for the Jacobite, the holes for the bolts are already there

Why? It has worked perfectly well for the last 40 years as it is. If it is not broken there is no need to alter it. Fitting air systems just means that there is more to go wrong.

Great to know that another youngster has been passed out firing. Are there any other youngsters being passed out at the moment?

And there is no chance of the K1 next year, as NELPG are aiming at 2023.

What's the state of play with 44932 or 48151? Either of them likely to return next year?
(I realise this is like asking MI5 for information BTW, but hey ho!).

44932 is a possibility for the Jacobite. 48151 has been up there in the past but I can’t see the curve of the Mallaig road being very kind to it

I had a ride behind 48151 to Mallaig back in 2006. Was very capable (& loud!), but as you say a whole season probably wouldn't do it a lot of good.
44932 would make a nice change up there, but West Coast have always seemed reluctant to use their own locos on the Jacobite.

Is 44932 actually under overhaul, just seems to have vanished into a black hole a fair few years back.

Don't forget WCR also have 44767 these days but assume that's as far if not further off.

48151 did the whole season in 1995, 1998 & 1999. The first 2 seasons beside 75014 and the last one beside 1264 when 1264 was in apple green livery. I would say 1264 is much more suited to the Jacobite than 48151 but I doubt we'll see anything other than a riley black 5 next year.

Back when 61264 was part of the regular motive power, the Jacobite was loaded to 6 Mk1s. Now with 7, that larger wheel diameter it holds over the Black 5's would probably find more difficulty over the hills to Mallaig than No. 48151 would experience.

Did 61264 ever run with 7 on it? I know that 75014 struggled with 7 on it in the 90s and was mostly limited to 6. 48151 did run with 7 on it in 2006 when it was last up there and it also if I’m right was facing smoke box first out of Mallaig.

Yes, I have heard drivers say that the B1 was a bit too "high in the wheel" for the Mallaig Extension.
