Yes I remember one on a couple of the Scarborough Flyers a few years back. Broke down at York and they had to pinch a bit off a museum exhibit to get it running again....

The naughty corner seems to be filling up quite nicely at present. And there I was hoping that we were feeling all Bulleid friendly especially towards Braunton who has upset no-one, I thought.

I know I am! Damn thing runs like a well oiled sewing machine, Sunday was the first time I've seen her at full tilt stretching her legs on the mainline!! :)

As I was told at the MHR, mechanically, she's 110% and the "stop" over winter should be a breeze................ :D

Looking forward to seeing her romp through West Ruislip on the 16th! ;)

Nunney or the loco that stands in for 70000( on GVII) which could be Bittern ( subject to gauging) since I presume it would be the same support crew, are other options.

Not necessarily so. A friend of mine is support crew mostly for 4464 and will add 34046 to his portfolio. Pretty sure he doesn't do 5029 nor 70000.

No in this case the bit was off Winnie, an oil feed pipe. Quote from elderly gentleman on the train with 3 similarly aged friends, "So Winnie gets us out of the sh1te again"

The Magpie is living on it's name and IMO undeserved reputation (I did once try their take away facility) There are much better fish and chips in Whitby and a damn sight better value for money.
Watch out for the seagulls pinching your chips, the evil buggas have no fear, and they sure as hell know how to defecate. :(

I've only ever seen one big Bulleid loco in action, Tangmere, are there any pictures of a BB orMN class with a big Stanier style big tender? They are handsome machines (Clan Line) but to my eye they look "unbalanced" with that silly tender.

Victor: There are a number of images of ( unrebuilt) BB and MN pacifics running with Stanier tenders, taken at the time of the 1948 locomotive exchanges in the two editions of the book by Cecil J Allen.
The original hardback has a cover photo of 35019 possibly on the western, 35017 at Bushey with the "Royal Scot", 34006 at Marylebone and Plymouth, 34005 at St Pancras, and 34004 in the Scottish Highlands on an Inverness express.
Most of these images also appear ( but with some differences) in the later paperback edition of "The Locomotive Exchanges". The Stanier tender does not look particularly out of place behind an unrebuilt Bulleid, what did look really out of place during the exchanges was 46154 and 46236 running on the Southern with a WD tender. I assume it was for water supply issues, ie no troughs.

Must of been a job to sort the loco/tender connections out, both physical & pipework. Not to mention the footplate & fallplate heights.

Does it matter? Why is everyone so intent on nit-picking at everything? For me it's a great photo.... Just as well I don't look into too much detail and comment on everyones posts! Otherwise it would end up in some b***h slanging match!!

Thanks for this - until now I'd thought that 35018 was the only rebuilt MN to run with a "cycling lion" logo tender. You learn something new every day on here! Does anyone have a definitive list of rebuilt MNs that ran with the early logo? I still pine for '28 unrebuilt with the later logo, though....

Fair enough, but a great photo. In the (nightmarish) world of Bullied tenders, is there anything special about this one? My immediate (uninformed) question was whether this was the self-weighing one?
