Yesterdays Waverley performance?? Maybe the NR partial steam ban had something to do with it. Galatea??? who knows what is wrong with it? the only people who can answer that question are Carnforth..........and they won't.
Yes, they are both Carnforth locos but in such a situation just about everything concerning their locos. is speculation and guesswork.

I have, do you think the "customers" on it got value for money????

As for the quote that NR read and digest posts on here, great, maybe the standards that are currently being delivered may rise...

Why do the LMS 4 cylinders not have so much of a problem? 46233 & 6201 always look and sound perfect.

And there is no bias in your posts.... the on-going attempts to bash and discredit WCRC is becoming a little tedious on this and other threads.

I would be very intrested to hear WCRC's interpretations of some of your comments on here, to suggest that they are passing loco's as FTR when they are not 100% 'It comes down to £££ ralph, as usually is the case. If something fails 10 mile down the line, then either the thoroughness of the FTR, or the quality of engineering in the first place has to be called into question, is this the real reason why nearly all WCRC trips are now having diesels in the consist???' (your words not mine) is making some rather strong allegations about their professional competence which I hope you have the evidence to support if called for.

An FTR is only good for a loco in it's current situation, i.e. sat on shed. You can inspect every last item on it, but as soon as the loco moves something can fail without warning. A certain Mr Coulls gave the Stevenage Loco Society a talk on the NRM a couple of weeks ago, one of the photos he showed was of the damaged middle con rod. The loco passed its FTR earlier in the day, but a bolt failed, and the rod ended up getting severely damaged . These things happen, no one could've predicted it.

Read the thread, especially Torgormaig's first-hand account (post #70), and watch the videos, then make up your own mind.

You are making the suggestions, based on wording from a post.

The events of this summer, and the past 6 weeks seem to bear out the points raised, if that is a bit near the truth for some so be it.

I am not trying to discredit them, rather wonder why they don't raise their game. If you think they do an outstanding job, that's your opinion.

I am not going to comment on customers getting value as I was not on the train so have not asked them. If I said that they had then I will be accused of bias....

Were any videos posted of the 2nd half of the trip? Have the steam locomotives been doing more of the work out of Carlisle?

Sorry... I am making the suggestion based on your wording your post (and in fact if I could be bothered to read back and quote other examples it is multiple posts) - hmmm thats an interesting defence of your position - so you wrote it but thats not what you meant?

Oh and I obviously think they are doing an oustanding job as I said that didn't I, or is it just that I won't agree with your view that its all a massive conspiracy. :(

I would agree that this is spoiling the thread and if I have caused this in anyway I would like to apologise. This exchange just strengthens my view that within each posters signature they should be forced to identify which axes they have to grind, such a process would allow other users to understand the context and backgroubnd to any posts submitted.

Meanwhile, trying desperately to get back on topic, it seems Galatea is still at York, sitting outside the museum...

As I am waiting patiently for all the initial issues with this engine to be resolved so I can travel behind her, I'm happy to wait for as long as it takes. Maybe WCR jumped the gun a bit on getting her into service but it is somewhat ironic that back a few months ago there were people complaining about the extended gestation period for the rebirth of Galatea. My bet is that some of the same people are now moaning about the recent glitches.

It is sad however, that no-one with the knowledge doesn't think to post a definitive update on exactly where they are with the engine. I realise that there is no reason why they should but at least it will stop any more public speculation in the railway press that arguably could be more damaging. Let's face it, without WCR there would be ever such a large hole in main line steam locomotives and services operated by steam.

Is there a particular reason that WCR are so secretive about their operations? (I'm not stirring things up here, just asking..) - I think the enthusiast community would all be right behind WCR if they had a lovely website with regular photos and updates of what they do....As for 45699 - I can't imagine even the most "that'll be ok" style engineering would risk their paying public on a fettling run - it must be something niggly and annoying to fix that keeps coming back. Thats my views anyway - let the shooting down commence!

As Ken Bruce often says 'One Year Out', Tim, they went on sale in 1996. I have a December 1995 Railway Modeller with a news item saying that the Bachmann pre-production model of Galatea had been seen at the Warley Exhibition and with details of how to obtain the models, and that the funds would be used to have the new driving wheels cast. Considering that 5699 only arrived at Tyseley around Easter 1995 the group didn't hang about.

Yes a nice model, I have one.
As west coast had the new wheels cast, I wonder if the proceeds ever did go to casting the new wheels??

Or maybe (only guessing) it went towards having the wheel pattern made.
This is the pattern that was used by West Coast and then also used by the guys behind the new build patriot "Unknown warrior"
I belive the cheque to pay for this pattern was written by Brian Oliver so maybe the models contributed towards this cost.

45699 was due to leave York NRM at 11-30 for Carforth behind 37706 but move now cancelled . A new timing has appeared on realtime showing something left York at 11-48 though .
