And here's me thinking you would let it drip out down hill, have a horizontal flat tunnel for the water tray to the other side of the hill and scoop it up on the other side :)

Tender frames more or less completed. It is intended to refit the tank to the frames this coming weekend (2/2/13). A large amount of parts for the engine were received from IoWSR today so we have lots of cleaning and de-rusting (mainly surface) to be getting on with. All the boiler stay nuts (side and crown) have been removed as scrap.

With the tender frames 90 percent complete, the tender tank was lifted back into place on Sunday 3rd February. The base of the tank has been repaired and now the upper sections will be repaired and replaced as required.

Yes, I believe 46447 was too long for the IoWSR, their original plan was to cosmetically restore the locomotive as a static exhibit.

Curiously, the inside edges of the Telehandler's front tyres are close to being 4' 8.5" apart, so you could probably argue that it is in gauge! ;)

The tender tank is coming along well, with the areas that have been needle gunned painted with green primer.

More photographs of the progress can be seen in this album.

The green paint reminds me to the colour of the Adams Radial. Seroiusly you're doing a great job on 46447 .

Both piston rods have had the surface rust removed using a grinding attachment in the lathe.

Are these guys trying for a new record for the restoration of a 'Barry Wreck'! Well done - a great credit to all concerned. Ray.

Judging by the condition of most of the components. This has to be a "Barry wreck" in very good condition. Amazed at the progress is an understatement.

Aye, into Woodhams 1967, out in 1972 and been undercover most of the time since. A very lucky loco, indeed.

Also (and no disrespect meant to the people at the ESR doing the work - happy to be corrected if I have got this wrong) I believe that as part of the deal that saw the grand swap of locos, the IoWSR (as the ultimate owners) are providing considerable help "at a distance", which I assume includes providing certain components that have already been refurbished / made. So I think there is additional resource going into the loco over and above what might be apparent from the photos.

The IoWSR are providing considerable help in that they continue to supply the various components of the locomotive that they have but that were not fitted at the time the loco was transported to the ESR last October. They are not doing any resoration work on these components but they are transporting them from IoWSR to ESR as and when we call for them. Whilst at Quainton a start was made on the restoration and good progress was made with the driving wheels, their bearings and axle boxes etc. Little or no work was done to the motion, boiler or tender. Were we have been lucky is that the loco and its components have been kept under cover in the dry. Also when the loco was originally stripped most of the parts were 'painted' with a preservative. For example we are finding that even though the boiler has never been touched in presevation we are generally able to remove studs.

Also, as it was only the second Ivatt 2 to come out of Barry it had not been heavily stripped. Ray.
