Thankyou . I was wondering what the chances were of it visiting one of the preserved lines that has a rake of Teak stock . The last time I saw it was on the North Norfolk hauling the Quad Arts several years ago . Would be good if it were to visit the NYMR or SVR as neither has an apple green loco at the moment and Tornado is only making a brief visit next March to The Moors .
Mayflower has been quiet of late , no doubt receiving some TLC !

Wikipedia still has it that Mayflower is based at the NNR which I don’t think has been the case for several years (if ever in fact. Didn’t seem to spend much time there even when it was supposedly based there).

Unless its at a preserved line you'll be waiting a good while! Tornado run by DB and not WC and Mayflower is the opposite!

Editing erroneous Wikipedia entries is so straightforward, even I've managed it on a few occasions! How to edit text is pretty obvious, with options to preview, post or cancel. The pinnacle of my own interference / contribution (take your pick!) to date was to correct a route map element at Gobowen to reflect the extant condition of lines. A couple of obviously long out obsolete entries on individual locos were updated and in both cases, this seems to have been picked up and continued by those closer to the subject than I. Sometimes, it seems, little more than the knowledge that anybody reads the page is needed to rekindle interest.

Several lines and locos enjoy support from individuals or groups seeking to bring relevant pages up to scratch, which is generally quite evident from entries within the editing area.

If Wikipedia is to improve, it's up to all able to correct errors to give it a go, though only on pages identifiably without a tribe working on them already (most of whom will respond positively to constructive engagement).

There exists a set of recognised standards (no.... seriously, there is!), which all too few Wiki entries meet. Fot example, there's a very active group working on the Talyllyn Rly pages who have spent some considerable time and effort ensuring entries are verifiably correct and properly referenced and a publicly visible page can be located from the main entry where group members actively discuss modifications in very minute detail.

Obviously, there are a hell of a lot of 'orphan' pages out there which are frequently laughable inaccurate. Rather than unprofitably expending time and energy bemoaning inaccuracies, all of us are free to pitch in to begin bringing pages up to scratch.

If anyone fancies making the effort to bring some of the considerable expertise many NP members possess to bear on offending entries, this would be a superb forum to chew the fat concerning possible improvements. If a page's original author is still interested, they'll be readily contactable via Wikipedia, if they're not then it's open season!

Getting erroneous wikipedia entries to stay correct after the next idiot with a bee in his bonnet steps in is a rather bigger task. Sometimes life is too short.

Quite agree. I corrected some erroneous info about 92 Squadron only for it to be changed back again.

On several occasions, I've observed a comment on Wikipedia followed by [citation needed], which I read as an addition indicative of frustration from someone in precisely your situation!

The edit function does include a changelog, but (and I think this is a weakness) edits can be performed by "Anonymous User", although messages can be (and are) left by those who do know what they're talking about for those less knowledgable to 'take on board'.

It is an irritation, but where an orphan page has been 'adopted' by those with a vested interest in bringing it up to a Wiki recognised standard of accuracy, this is pretty evident to any venturing into edit mode and such unhelpful muppets do eventually get the message. Whether there's some mechanism for e-castigation of said muppets, I know not, so it's honestly quite understandable when someone eventually just throws their hands up and says
I guess, if anyone wanting to crowbar known poor entries into the land of the credible, in the face of junk amendments an approach to a working group, such as those beavering away on the Talyllyn and Corris pages (who will have faced the same problems), may throw some light on what is or isn't possible.

If Wikipedia entries prove to be an area of sufficient interest, a dedicated thread wouldn't be a bad idea, though quite where it would slot into the NP menus is a decision I'll bravely leave to the moderators. If it became something several were interested in, we could be talking about a lot of separate threads concerning very different Wiki pages in fairly short order.

From what I've seen of the TR editors' discussions, adding Wiki editing considerations for (say) 61306 to any thread under "Steam Traction" would (a) pretty soon test the patience of folk wanting to talk about the loco itself - as will be happening right now (sorry folks) and (b) crossover onto matters regarding related pages (e.g. those on B1 Class generally, the LNER itself, relevant heritage lines) is unavoidable - guaranteed!!

I fear you are right, but to be a little more accurate Tornado runs WITH DB, ( WC wont use her,) but unless some exclusivity arrangement is made Mayflower can run with anyone who wants her - apart from the little matter of not being air braked ? .
Technically im not sure if you could have a non Air braked Pilot Engine on an Air Braked train.

5029 (air and vac) and 5051 (vac only) ran together on the mainline during 5051's last spell. I remember looking at the piping at St David's with some amazement. Whether it would still be allowed is another question.

The loco visited the NYMR in 2013 under the Boden ownership.

From memory 5051 was through piped for such an eventuality, I assume that if the train is air braked the air loco has to be on the front and thus Tornado would have to lead should 61306 be piped for such an eventuality?
