LNWR's Steve Latham has hinted (in this month's Steam Railway) she could make an appearance at the WSRs 'Standards' gala in March

It would be nice to see 'Britannia' on the WSR in March, did a member of the class ever get to Minehead during BR steam days?

    Regards

No. The Minehead Branch was a "blue" route west of Bishops Lydeard in the GWR/WR route classification system. Britannias as "red" engines were not permitted as the axle loading was too high. In fact no Britannia has yet reached Minehead in preservation, although axle loading is not now an issue.

Did Duchess of Hamilton go there by rail in the '60s? It left by rail in the '70s, presumably that was with special permission as an OOGL?

Mind you 46233 to Minehead is considerably less mad than 46203 over Barmouth Bridge - has anyone got a photo of that??!!

I did see 70000 at Bishops Lydeard a few years ago. It was renumered 70047 and carried the name plate Ivo Peters. The day I saw it, it wasn't in use. Whether it had or later reached Minehead I couldn't say.

Without coal and water steam locos are an awful lot lighter than their working weight.

Correction - my error ! 70000 ran on the WSR in March 1996 as others have pointed out. Also 70013 visited Bishops Lydeard last year between railtours, but did not run on WSR services.

Yes I am sure that an empty 46203 would weigh little more than a Class 37, it was more the incongruity (is that a word??!!) of it in the location that I was considering...

Latest photos on Pete Waterman's blog show that the boiler has been moved inside the main workshop again for the cladding to be attached.

According to Heritage Railway 70000 may be painted into its short lived original plain black liviery (prior to naming in 1950) though they're unsure if it'll carry nameplates and it won't be carried long before being repainted into Brunswick Green.

I think Tangmere was the last Southern engine over the S&C in May 2008? Can't remember what the last Southern engine was to go over Shap!
