Alan, Did you happen to take any shots when we took 44932 and 44871 to Barrow (From Carnforth) on separate trains in September 1972?

 

Yes John, but in B&W.

 

I'll never forget that day and the pride and joy we felt to have 'Steamtown' locos out on the main line.

 

I seem to remember being told that Steamtown had decided to restrict the locos to 45mph that day, or is my memory playing tricks?
I know that when 44871 passed us at Cark she was doing a lot more than that!
I'll scan the negs, if I can find them in the loft, and put them up later this evening.

We'd better include the South West for these 'go anywhere' 5s. 45407 at Hemerdon on The South Hams Pony tour from Plymouth on 28th March 2007.

 

I have no memory of that, but we did come back tender first on both trips, so it may have been something connected with that. The Carnforth crews (signing on point at the station by then) were well up for it and the beer flowed freely in the local BRSA Club that night!

Seem to remember 44932 remained green until stripped for overhaul in the mid 80's
