Slowly but surely the extension to Broadway is getting into gear. The bridges have almost been completed, and thoughts are now turning to laying the track, expected to start in Q2 2015.
But you can't just start laying. The trackbed has to be cleared, embankments stabilised, ballast put down, rails acquired. The process has started. You can follow it here, in a new GWSR blog:

Enjoy ! And if you contributed to the share appeal, thank you ! You helped make it possible, and thanks to you, we are on our way.

Jo - I think you're getting a bit obsessed by blogs :p Stealing the limelight from Nigel Black's excellent Flickr site and all! :D Great news on the rail front though, very pleased when I heard the news. Nice to see that NYMR have finally let 2807 come back, apparently they got rather attached to it  Reading that post reminds me of the volunteers' meeting - were their minutes taken that will be circulated soon, as it would be nice to hear what went on, before the meeting I heard here would be some news on Winchcombe yard development which is of the most immediate interest to me (I want to know how the view will change when drinking a cuppa!)

It's not intended to steal any limelight, but act as a complement. We chatted this through.

I know I know, an excuse for another blog! It now takes me a good half an hour to look through all the GWSR blogs! I'm sure the P'way people are more bothered about having an exciting extension to work on.

We are not bothered (as discussed earlier) but nobody was about to witness the quick unloading of the rails at Laverton!

Good to see 2807 (well at least the loco, perhaps the tender too?) back from the NYMR after what I understand to be a very successful visit. It was a day early coming back home I believe. Great to see another blog on the rebuild of the line to Broadway although the problem with blogs is that they can be rather like certain narcotics in that, if regular doses are not provided, the recipients soon exhibit withdrawal symptoms. FS123 is clearly "hooked"!

Thanks to D6969 for the link to the track delivery to the railhead at Laverton. On the basis that "too soon isn't soon enough," coupled with a need to obtain a return on investment (quite a substantial amount of it raised by donations) makes me think that progress to Broadway will proceed sooner than we think. (Well, that's my hope!)

I take my hat off to the dedicated GWSR blog writers. What with the Broadway Station blog, the Bridges to Broadway Blog, the Cheltenham Racecourse platform construction blog and now this new one on construction of the extension I think it amazing how much effort is being put into keeping us informed of progess at the GWSR. There are of course a whole load of other blogs too for signalling, carriage and wagon etc. Many thanks to those responsible for writing the updates!

Another excellent blog relating to the GWSR. How I wish other Heritage lines could catch this "bug" as an easy and quick way of keeping everyone uptodate.
By the way, very trusting folks leaving all that brand new rail out there all on its own....Hope they have put it on their "contents" policy!

I don't think Laverton is exactly a crime hotspot somehow! I believe there's been some stuff dumped, err, I mean strategically placed there for some time now and I don't think anything's happened to it. Meanwhile at the opposite end of the line in Hunting butts tunnel, supposedly reasonably secure, vandalism has happened on one or two wagons, so we're definitely going the right way!
