China Clay Wagons

Hi

I am currently working on a project in cornwall and I am looking at all 23 clay wagons that have been preserved in preservation and where they are located.

I currently know that there are 9 in cornwall: B743000, B743031, B743171, B743226, B743353, B743415, B743443, B743495, B743635. But upon inspection of the rcts wagon database a lot of the wagons and their locations are incorrect.

Can anyone shed light on the current location of the other 14 clay wagons are?

I have just had a look and it matches with some information that I already have.

one that is puzzling me is B743730 as I have spoke recently to the chairman of the east Somerset railway and he says that it left the railway some time ago and does not know where it went, does anyone know where it could be?

 

We had some on a photo charter on the Dean Forest Railway in the late 90s

 

I'm pretty sure it went to the South Devon, not 100% though.

 

I have had a look at south Devon but they only have the one B743010 that I have seen pictures of. This one seems to have vanished into thin air.

 

Between the 28th September 2019 (When the wagon was last photographed) and today there is not trace of it.

 

Fair enough, definitely went to a railway in the South West.

South Devon Railway took delivery of B743730 today (26 October 2020), and plan to use it alongside B743010 once restored.

Really interesting - what happened to the one at St Blazey depot which belonged to EWS/DB Cargo - is it still there?

 

Hi Paul,

The St Blazey Clay Wagon was B743835, it left St Blazey (When we don't exactly know) and is currently residing at the Gloucs Warks Railway.

hello!

an update been long coming.

the project that myself and my father had founded created and was running that being the clay wagon project has now stopped meaning our dream of restoring the largest collection of BR china clay wagons has now ended and any work to those wagons is now being done by bodmin and wenford railway. politics of the railway caused it to stop on our end.
