Locomotives in use over the weekend will be:

    L&YR A Class ‘52322’, now in BR black livery;

A full timetable of passenger and goods trains will run to a frequent service throughout the weekend. I am informed that the various train sets will include:

Vintage set (made up of the Stately Trains 6-wheelers and the L&Y Directors Saloon)
    Parcels set (includes passenger facilities)
    Engineers train (no passenger facilities)
    Pick-up goods (no passenger facilities)

    Prices for the event are:

    Adult Return: £15
    Children Return: £5
    Platform Tickets: £5

Platelayer, many thanks for the detailed reply, what a great selection of locos and train formations, it looks an excellent event.

I am concerned by the lack of details on the website, there are four days to the event. There are big rival galas at the Great Central and North York Moors which have been well advertised and which make it look like the Embsay event isn't going to get the patronage it deserves. Such as interesting gala operationally needs shouting about!

The information abut train formations and prices was actually lifted directly off the Railway's website under 'Events' then '125th Anniversary Gala'. The loco information is also on the web page, I just added some detail.

I should think there has been plenty of shunting going on getting ready for this gala.

Oh yes, a considerable amount, with more to come on Friday, I understand.

Although the prep done ahead of the A Class photo charter may have contributed towards the Gala train formations.

The STN I have received for the transfer of new arrivals from the unloading area to Embsay suggests that they will arrive tomorrow (Wednesday).

This railway is one I had never visited before today. After spending a very long day at the Yorkshire Moors yesterday and arriving back late last night I couldn't face another long trip today. So instead I dragged the Mrs out on a promise to go to Bolton Abbey and spent a day on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway, calling at the abbey itself for a cream tea and a walk of the grounds.

The reason I hadn't visited before was the view that 'they don't run any big engines', and 'the events always clash with the big boys'. I have to say, I'm glad I made the visit today. I have been enlightened. You don't need Pacifics to run a good gala. You don't need seven coach trains to make an event.

What we found at Embsay train movements every 15-20 minutes. Double headers galore. Combinations I've never even thought of, let alone seen (Sir Berkley & 52322?). Oh and I've finally seen Sir Berkley in steam rather than just static at Ingrow.

Thank you to everyone involved with the event today. I hope I don't leave it to long before I pop by again. I'll also get some photo's up when I get chance.
