Yes, a very good piece I think; informative and not "dumbed down" much at all. Some good short, sharp interviews there too and complimented by shots of the loco in action - a must in my view when the subject is restoring a steam locomotive to working order - it's what people want to see. Agree that the inside of a workshop like that is a fantastic sight and something that most 21st centurions would be amazed still exists. Thank God they do still exist. (For my shame, I had to look up the shedcode, 50A, York of course!)

Agree, it was a good piece, quite surprised to put the news on and hear that they were about to do a piece later in the programme about Flying Scotsman, but it must be getting closer if they are showing a news article on it.

From the short period where 4472 ran with 4498's tender (the raised letters on the side are the giveaway).

The last shot on the BBC video clearly shows her conversion to an 0-6-2! They said they'd totally rebuilt the front end, but that was a bit drastic.

A great report on the BBC site. Had to do a second take though with the shot featuring the smokebox numberplate. I thought for a moment she was wearing 60163's numberplate. A very strong resemblance to Tornado as well in that shot (and she was once an A1 too).
I can't wait for her return. In Ian Riley's hands she will be a very fit loco.

One would kike to hope so, otherwise, its serious egg on face, given the time & money thrown at this project!!

I wonder if the Beeb will be allowed to do an updated version of their Time shift programme - warts & all & tell the TRUE story of 4472!..........

I have seen on the "other forum" that Robson Green is doing a documentary about 4472/60103 as pictures were posted on there of him at Riley's works.

That seems to be standard NRM practise with its ex-LNER BR-liveried engines. I recall that, when Green Arrow (running as 60800) visited the Bluebell in 2003, it too sported a 50A shedcode plate, even though, according to the BR loco database, it was never a York engine and spent most of its working life at King's Cross. I think I've seen a picture of 92220 (the real one!) also sporting a 50A shedcode plate, but I don't think the preserved BR-liveried NRM engines from the other Big Four companies (e.g., 6000, 34051, 35029 have been "reallocated" to York.

Which is more authentic? To sport a shed plate for a shed that no longer exists, or for the location where the loco is now based? I suppose you could argue that, perhaps, GWR liveried locos should sport the letters YOR or possibly NRM at the front of the frames... I have to admit that my brand of purism would be happier if every GWS loco had the shed letters DID on the frames rather than the random selection they currently carry, but I expect I'm in a minority.

I am all for authenticity, but it's historical authenticity, i.e. authentic for a particular period. I see nothing wrong with a loco carrying a shed plate for a former home now long gone, anymore than carrying the letters LMS (or whatever) on the tender, a company that disappeared 67 years ago.
