There is a subtle difference between the (Peppercorn) A1 cab and the standard LNER pacific variety, in that the A1 cants in from about the horizontal handrail upwards; Britannia-like. In the past, this fooled many model kit manufacturers eg DJH!

Can anyone give any info as to what the plans are for running in and test runs? With the loco being at Bury and the tender at York, I would assume that the loco will not be run in at the ELR now unless the intention is to return the loco and tender to the ELR after the unvieling?

    Thanks, Neil.

Thanks Anthony, will she be returning to the ELR via road and will the mainline tests be from Castleton initially? I haven't seen Scotsman since Railfest at York in 2004, in bits or otherwise!

    Neil.

Is the overhaul going to plan?
    No delays foreseen?
Just that a rumour is circulating and I would like to see it killed.

There are always rumour mongers and naysayers. Nothing as far as I know. If you can PM me what it is please I shall happily look into it.

Ah yes, the truth of the matter is that the boiler tubes are made of chocolate and that they are of the wrong grade, Nestle rather than Cadbury's...

Wasn't there a difference between loco's overhauled Doncaster and Darlington? IIRC Doncaster always favoured Terry's whereas Darlington we a firm believer in Rowntrees? Surely neither would stoop so low as to use that Midland interloper Cadburys?

Some famous names there - Sad that all the major suppliers of tubes are now either foreign owned or defunct!!

.... and so chocolate serves as a metaphor for not only the steel but so many other industries in this once fine country!

Excellent. Just under 2 weeks isn't it until its 502/103 (as we should refer to her now ;)) is unveiled. Exciting times.

I would have thought she would do a Bittern - ie, a midnight flit under cover of darkness, draped in tarpaulins, just to keep up the level of suspense before being unveiled to the admiring hordes.

I for one will be there on the Saturday along with a good friend, To say that I'm looking forward to it is an understatement Lol!

Indeed low-loader Bury -York on 26th, then mated with its tender and displayed on the turntable in the Main Hall at the NRM over the bank holiday weekend. Then off for running in?

(I was just thinking that the NRM must have eased its previous objection (allegedly) to large wheeled engines being transported by low loader given the stresses and strains this might impose on springs, axleboxes etc)
