This is from the forum where I spend most of my time. Its aviation based - really

The level crossing wasn't on Gateford Road. It was on Carlton Road. Gateford Road went under the 'iron bridge' as it was known. Gateford Road had a chip shop that still fried in beef dripping....The level crossing was controlled by Worksop East signal box. An interesting thing there was the down road signalling - down being towards Sheffield. In order, you had the Down distant, the down outer home and the down inner home (before the crossing), and the down starter at the end of the platform. The inner home had a distant signal on it, which was slotted to the inner home, but controlled by Worksop West signal box, so it could be Off when the starter (the next signal to be seen) was On.

There were quite a few variants of the O4, and I cannot remember how many were around Worksop in the late 1950s. There were a few J39s and rather more J11s - maybe even some of the rebuilt J11s, the J11/3. Of course there was an enormous coal traffic from the Manton, Shireoaks, Dinnington, Langold and Firbeck collieries in those days. The Nottingham passenger trains were usually powered by a Stanier 2-6-4 tank, while there was a coal working from Dinnington which joined the Retford line at Brantcliffe east Junction and went off south at Shireoaks West Junction (which was actually east of Shireoaks!) and that was Stanier 8F hauled. The Harwich - Liverpool boat trains were B17 or B2 (which was a rebuilt B17) powered: 'Doncaster Rovers' was the engine for that for a long time, but in the early 60's, it became Brittania powered, presumably from Ipswich shed.

The Key Publishing forum (Flypast etc) seems to have a fair number of trainspotters amongst its members too.
