Actually Stuart, you were advised by myself and others to join an already established restoration or new-build group so that you could gain some experience before 'going it alone'. However like every other piece of advice given, and despite your promises to the contrary, you have chosen to ignore it. And before someone else says I'm just 'having a go' at Stuart because of his youth - I'm not. There are some very fine young engineers out there. I would offer the same advice, irrespective of age, to anyone with Stuart's lack of experience. Ray.

how can i put this, siding space is almost non exsistant, and then theres the politics of who brings what and does the board want it, there was quite a struggle first with bringing 4253 to the railway, then same with 5668, it is as far as i can see caused by some who are scared of the railway overstreaching its self and failing, and the thought of a future 2 mile extension and having to work it sends them heading for the panic button. so whilst a GW 2 -8-0 may be operationly a very good choice, ie plenty of coal space and can carry enough water to do a round trip with ease, and has some part s that are common with a 42, it would probally never be allowed to go to Rolvendon, but saying that, in 4 or 5 years things may change, i would love to see a 28/38 even if just visiting on the line just to see how practicall one would be, Charlie, and Brian, start saving :)

4253 has a 9 year engineering timeline, and is only really into year 3. 5668 isn't going to need any less work, so that's what, 2030 to start on the next project after 5668, at which time 4253 would presumably be out of ticket and need a heavy general anyway. So if Rolvenden is really the best hope, then 2859 is in big trouble.

i think you will find that 4253 is well ahead of schedule i think you could well seee her in steam at the 6 year mark, assuming that the funds keep coming in as they have.

I can't see anyone taking a group called Mixed Traffic trying to preserve a Heavy Freight Loco seriously

Based on previous performance I can't see any scheme with Stuart Reeder's name attached to it being taken seriously. Wasn't "mixed traffic" last week's name? According to Farcebook it's now the 2859 something or other. C'mon Reading General do try to keep up. LOL. Ray.

Unless one of the group has won a sum on the lottery nothing will happen how much is 2859 going for by the time it is restored we shall all be pushing up the daisies unless a wealthy benefactor comes along now where did i put that half million quid

as someone who has actually met stuart at Minehead a couple of years ago (i was on the sales stand for lms patriot) he does seem like a nice guy but i have to say these constant newbuilds/restorations every month are getting annoying. Stuart have you got a job yet or your own means of transport? Because if you dont then i don see how the "chairman" "manager" of a project can be in that position as they wont be able to actually work on it. you do seem to always want to be in charge of every project. i still dont get why you dont join an existing project.

I'm going to set the cat amongst the pidgins now..

maybe the boiler / tender and several other components of 2859 could be used in a Star Class new build...

(lets see what the face book group is named tonight).

This was posted by Stuart Reeder on the Facebook thread created by Didcot just after 5227 arrived. The discussion is about what should be done with her.

Stuart Reeder i suppose you could convert that chassis to a dean class loco's chassis for example

Came across it this afternoon :)

Being serious for a moment I don't think 2859 has a tender or rods. However the boilerless chassis of 2873 at the SDR is supposed to be in reasonable condition ( the boiler is at Tyseley for the aborted 'Star' project) so could there be scope for making one good one out of the two? Ray.

rubbish, much better to stitch them together and make a W1 out of it :D

    ahem...

sounds like a decent project for someone or other, but I'd suggest perhaps not Mr Reeder.
