Don't worry it's still being worked on! The stuff at the moment isn't very visible to the average person, it's all just riveting, polishing, painting, making the little finishing parts and the sort. Don't think all the valve gear and stuff has gone together yet.

...its about being excited at the prospect of seeing a locomotive I've dreamed of since I was 5...why do you have to rain down on the excitement??

Paul Lewin has recently sent out a Lyd project update to key supporters of the Lyd project, key Boston Lodge personnel and the Launceston Steam Railway.

The info that has been publically released from the project update can now be viewed on the Launceston Steam Railway news page. Not much info but news all the same.

Hopefully we are not too far from seeing what all the fuss is about! :D

I saw a full set of valve gear today, it may have even been stuck to the train.

Well you should come to Wales for a ride behind it them, where it will actually be working rather than simmering.

Seeing Lyd at Woody Bay will be a dream come true! I love the FR but Launceston and Devon are easier to get to for me anyways....

Of course if Lyd is finished in time, if she works and if James and Paul are happy to put her on a passenger train, then her trip to Launceston is likely to be the first official opportunity for the general public to ride behind her. Any trips on the FR or WHR beforehand are likely to be for supporters only.

However the plan could change completely!

I think a big mistake has been made somewhere with the decision to send Lyd away as soon as it has been finished, what's the point in investing £400,000 in something to then send it away before publically launching it? All you see is the train spotters go and spend money at some other railways rather than your own. It should stay at home for atleast a year before it is even contemplated that it should be seen elsewhere.

James Evens Who started the engine in his own premises, designed it and has put in a lot of labour and cash I think you'll find is the answer to that Will, besides he can trouble shoot her in his back yard, so to speak, without our own engineers having to do so

This isn't a commercial exercise for the FR, its the ressurection of a long dead locomotive and the tantilising remains of Englands most inspiring narrow gauge railway

I dont see any need to be concerned. The novelty factor is unlikely to wear off after a couple of brief visits to lines in the south west, and to experience her at speed with a full length train will still require a visit to North Wales.

It'll have allready been trouble shooted at BL where there is a fully equipped workshop and some of the best expertise in narrow gauge steam trains in the world, surely they will deal with any issues?
It's all about money, I expect the FRCo. will want to get back any investment it put in.
