Have heard that No.29's out today on a full diagram, just wondering if anyone's able to confirm whether it's doing the same tomorrow (Monday) please?

    Cheers

I have no idea, but NYMR website advertised today but says zero about 29 tomorrow.

Then today is amended Yellow timetable and I think 29 covered the DMU duty.

Monday is a Gold timetable, with no DMU duty.

So it's not looking good for 29. But who knows? Next Sunday is a better bet for 29.

To answer my own question, in case anyone else was watching for the answer, NYMR Facebook lists 75029, 61264, 45407 and 60007 for tomorrow.

    29 did do the 1110 Gmt-Pkg, 1245 Pkg-Gmt, 1530 Gmt-Pkg & 1700 Pkg-Gmt yesterday

But 29 struggled on 5 coaches, first train took 43 minutes to go from Grosmont to Goathland, stopping twice for a blow up, the 1530 had the 25 pilot 29 as far as Goathland, the 1700 had to stop for a blow up in Newton Dale, not sure if this will be repeated next Sunday.

Interesting, I'm sure it didn't used to struggle quite so much! Still bedding in, perhaps?

I've never regarded 29 as the best of steamers. It may have the TE to do the job but that is only part of the story.

I wondered why the diesel was assisting No.29 up the bank . Several of the passengers were complaining that they expected steam only !

Luckily the DMU is out of traffic (last used at Christmas), although with coal shortage and advertised as diesel not sure if 29 will return next Sunday or if this turn will be diesel or steam during the "peak season"?

A 3 car DMU would have struggled with loading's during certain parts of the diagram on Sunday.

The 09-40 service from Pickering was also diesel hauled even though the timetable said steam . Only six coaches and standing room only when it arrived at Levisham . One of the staff admitted the first train out of Pickering on a Bank holiday was always very popular and good weather had been forecast . The guard and ticket inspectors were getting some stick !

On the NYMR forum it is reported that the problems 29 were had were due to coal quality, and not the engine, and that this affected 75029 and 45407 also. On Sunday it had a very experienced driver on it. I've had 29 hurried with four coach trains and it's steamed perfectly well. I've also had it fired with wood on 5 coaches again due to coal quality. It steamed satisfactorily on the wood!

The coal was so bad that the loco from the diner took over two hours to dispose of due to what was left in the ashpan and firebox.
