I can see this station being used in film sets in future because of its size and imposing appearance. Apart from Loughborough and Keighley to some extent, there are very few heritage stations that can perform this cameo (and earn money as a result). Just imagine Oswestry station in a few years time with all the furniture, period advertising signs and associated paraphenalia in place! Its a beauty! Welll done to you all folks!

Actually there are quite a few (Horsted Keynes, Kingscote and Pickering after the overall roof is finished are examples) so there is plenty of competition.

For a group that has it's roots way back in 1972 progress has at times been slow, limited by other factors. Now the line is available things are happening very fast, really the major constraint is money. Still a long way to go and many activities to finish but the goal is becoming closer.

Looking good mate, was the station only a single track station then ? The 2nd platform looks a tad close to allow double track ? Which way are you planning on extending, towards the footbridge or the other way towards the signal box ?

And how do you link up with the other Cambrian Project ?

    Great Western.

It was neither. There was three tracks between platforms. And there Will be again from the plans for the station. Will be very impressive. Im not a member but when at oswestry earlier in the year a chap said the council want them to head to the mainline first.

As this link shows, Oswestry was a substantial station, befitting its role as the HQ of the Cambrian Railways. Would be fantastic to see it fully restored one day, footbridge included.

So by the look of it you cant go very far towards the footbridge then? Looks to be car park in the way.....so the only way forward is the other way.

Looked like a very impressive station, so in time three lines will be relaid then?

Cancel that, Ive looked on Google and you've in effect got a mainline connection ! and a level crossing still in place. A big benifit to full reinstatement, and there is space at Gobowen to for national rail inchange.
The line also looks intact but very overgrown in the other direction to. Looks like a ready made railway really.

Looking further on Google Earth, there appears to be track right down to the other Cambrian Project. But their project seems to be maxed already, the current running line is at its maxmus with a road to cross and then large trackbed encroakment with gardens and houses over the former trackbed. Seems a strange place to start a project if Im honest. Is the bridge in tact at the other end of their terminal? 'just' needs a few 100 yards to link up with the current intact line of the Oswetry project.

Where does the line that curves away at his former Junction go ? Looks very overgrown again though.

    Great Western.

Main item of news is the first passenger movement from Oswestry platform wil take place this Friday 22/4.

Cambrian Heritage railways will be running the FIRST trains out of Oswestry station platform for well over 40 years THIS FRIDAY the 22nd from 11:00, Get yourself down to watch history being made!

Trains also run for the rest of the weekend at Oswestry AND Llynclys.

Please check the website for the latest information.

The first runs are with the brake van and will go South from the station.

All three Cambrian projects are working together under one 'umbrella'. The dilema of North or South is a nice one to have. Go North and there is the mainline connection, go South and there is the connection to the other parts of the Cambrian system. Much will depend on what money is available and from who. In either direction there is plenty that needs doing and money to be spent.

The 100 yards that separate the two running lines have no physical obstacles, all that is needed is money. Any help with this is always welcome.

The google images are quite out of date now and the trackbed is nominally clear along the route.

Surely going south is out of the question for the forseeable?

The bridge carrying Salop Road has temporary propping under it that would preclude passage of trains. I assume due to a strength issue.

Last I heard thats how it was going to stay due to the cost of a bridge strengthening or replacement.
