PS Compton Castle

Whilst the paddler is in Truro with plans for refitting her into a floating restaurant slowly taking shape her engine is on the Isle of Wight at Blackgang Chine and is not only well cared for but is also powered in a mock up of the ships engine room complete with sound effects - the only thing missing is the smell! Having seen the PS Caledonia's engine in Liphook I was expecting similar (ie in a shed covered in primer) but it was great to see the work that had gone into getting this right. I have some video that I will post on Youtube when I get chance.

Well worth a visit . . one of the best museum exhibits I've ever seen . . .

I visited Blackgang Chine last year and saw Compton Castle's engine - I agree that it is the best engine display and interpretation of an engine room that I've seen. In fact it was so like walking into Kingswear Castle's engine room to be surreal! It inspired me to show KC's engine a lick of paint too!

Glad to hear Compton Castle is still being refitted.
