I think you've all missed the go faster stripes too...! :)

I love the technology that has been incorporated into Tornado. When I took a group of students down the GCR in 2010, to be shown around the engine, the thing they remembered most and thought was "awesome" was the mobile phone charger on the tender! Of course, they were all Aero students and the conversation soon steered towards the building of 60163...I'll be forever grateful to David Eliott and Alexa Stott amongst others in the Trust who let me organize that, it was a one off for Loughborough Uni, and will sadly never be repeated I suspect.

Yes - that's us! My apologies, tiredness got the better of me last night. I'm in the front with the stripes.

It was a pleasure SAC Martin :) we're always happy to arrange for groups to look round Tornado if we can make it happen.

Going back a few posts to those furry dice... believe it or not someone put a pair in the cab during the last few weeks before the engine did its first moves at Darlington. I've got a picture but can't work out how to download it on here! The dice were given to me as a memento after I had a little drive - with some comment (obviously complimentary!) about women drivers.

Thanks Alexa, same here :) Sadly from the way the University has changed certain aspects of the clubs and societies, the amount of paperwork generated by the insurance policies for similar events will probably prevent it happening in future :(

It was a great day out for all concerned, mind - so glad it happened when we had the chance. :)

That's brilliant! RE the pic, if you have an external picture account, put the url of the picture between the

Just passed Tornado in steam at Southall depot with one maroon coach attached, also 4492 parked up there beside the main line not in steam. Photos too blurry to post though as my train was moving and it's getting gloomy :(

Tornado all set to move up to Peterborough for tomorrow I guess.

Just out of interest, how many support crew members are required for a LE move?

I see from the UK steam website that 60163 will be spending the winter at Ropley. Will this be for maintenance only or will Tornado be used on amy MHR services during its stay?

Posted in another thread that she's there for a 12 month exam and a contract repaint of her tender.

Horses for courses really, the minimum we like to operate with for a L/E move is three. Responsible officer or one of the latter acting as. An engineer and owners rep.

I've been one of 2 people on a Bridgnorth to York move with 60009 a few years ago. One guy on the footplate, the other either sleeping or making bacon sarnies in the support coach. The joys of a corridor tender!

Interesting comments on what is being done. The Council meeting of the Trustees takes place on 13/14 January when final decisions will be made. However springs are being changed; the old ones being sent for refurbishment - none are broken, as far as I know. but a tender repaint is not required.
