    Errr......in front of a computer?
I have recently finished painting a milk tanker that I acquired last year. I am know looking to apply the writing on the side. The wagon is at a private railway site in Birmingham.

Does anyone know someone who does signwriting?
Who produces reasonably priced vinyls that will last a decent amount of time?

    Many thanks,

    Kieran

    Hello

We can supply both cut vinyl graphics, full colour prints for logos and crests, lining, and traditional sign writing.

We are based in Telford, so not too far away.

We have supplied many railway projects and are always keen to get the graphics right.

I am intrigued what tanker you have, is it a united dairies one, I own a Ruston loco that worked for them and have found the logos under the paint layers.

Bob Timmins might go for it, but I don't have any contact info for him - try via Bob Meanley at Tyseley or Mick Haynes (SVRA).

Alternatively, you could try Jon Leeson - phone number here:— https://www.facebook.com/LetterKnight/about/?ref=page_internal
or if you're really flush, David Kynaston:— http://www.davidkynaston.co.uk/

Vinyl is a quick fix & pretty durable provided the surface is sound & it doesn't have to bridge overlaps, welds or rivets/bolts. Beware though, unless you supply artwork most firms will default to whatever font they have that they think looks OK.

As Pete says don't go to just any sign company as said they will just use any old type, and even if you specify Gill sans most modern true type versions on computers are wrong, (we have edited ours).

As a trained sign writer it does frustrate me when preservations spend years and thousands restoring something and then 'do' the lettering themselves and take the edge off the whole job, get a professional to do it!

Vinyl graphics - virtually anything can be done, including going over rivets, bolts and welds again you just have to know what you are doing when fitting it/use the right material and being brutally honest there are a lot of sign companies that have no idea what they are doing! I know because i tutor in signmaking for one of the largest vinyl supply companies in Europe.

Would be delighted to offer no obligation advice on this or any other projects

The tanker belonged to the Milk Marketing Board, so the livery will be unauthentic. But it is being done with steam era in mind.

We decided we wanted to use a signeriter rather than vinyls. Scott Manser from Ascot contacted me via another forum. Wagon has now been moved to MNR from Birmingham.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.
