The end door has now been painted. We just need to get the white stripe and swan necks painted then numbered to complete B 279719. We have also completed 5 more FTR exams....and found our next job!

B551846 which has an inoperative vac cylinder and bodywork corrosion. This arrived in 1993 from Rover Cars and was painted in 1995, It has been in the running rake ever since, so deserves a bit of TLC!

Another 6 wagons have arrived at Rothley for examination. We hope to get these completed during the week and then we will have a good rake of 16T wagons to be pulled by the visiting single chimney 9F No 92134 and GWR 28xx No 3802 during the Autumn Gala at the end of this month (30th - 3rd).

The brake tests on all six have been completed, with two wagons needing attention. Two wagons, so far, have had their pads examined - so further progress to our "30 at 30" target!

Interestingly the end wagon, B 279707, 2019-10-07_5 rail cleaner.JPG did appear in a different livery when it was first painted on the GCR, back in the mid 1990's.

No back in the mid 90's the GCR ran a gala based on Hornby Dublo wagons and engines the 8F and the N2 where renumbered and locos and Wagons had a Hornby style logo placed on one end.
other rolling stock so Branded included the steam crane, a suburban coach, tanker wagon and the type 1.

Those six wagons have now passed their FTR exams and so we should have a full rake of "minerals" running for the Autumn Gala (Sept 30th - Oct 3rd). We will also have our Sales Stand on the Sat/Sun at Rothley Shed. All welcome to chat or buy!

Three more wagons were brought to Rothley by the Ops dept and one has passed its FTR exam (B 279742). The other two need some "light" body repairs (B 279721 and B573403). This means that we have 20 of our 30 wagons with new FTRs. We are still on schedule for our 30@30 at the end of next year......:)

DSCF6505s.jpg I'm told that wagon B 551846 (pictured in Post 161) is now in the shed for it's bodywork repairs. The remaining 7 Non-runners at Quorn, pictured here, will be brought to Rothley during the next year. We are still working towards for our "30@30" in Nov 2022!

It was good to see our 18 wagons plus two brake vans at Loughborough ready for Gala duty.
Meanwhile at Rothley, we opened up wagon B 551846. The first job was to sweep out the rust....and a lot fell through holes in the floor! So we will now replace the whole floor and bottom 10" of the sides. This also helps with access to the vac cylinder, which needs refurbishment. We will blank off the larger second cylinder as we never run the wagon loaded!

Here is another view of the inside of Wagon B 551846 as the rust was being swept out. Behind and beneath that, reasonable looking outside, lurks horrors!

B 551846 has had more floor and side metal removed!
    DSC01004.JPG

Although the end door looks bad from the inside, we have decided to put off replating it, to concentrate on getting more wagons running over the next few months ( - 30@30!). It is structurally sound so has been repainted.

A quick question to see who is paying attention.... the pry bar in the above picture has a specific use with it's 90 degree bent end......any ideas?
Also the final bit of floor has been removed and some chassis repair work will be needed next.
