I watched this t'other day. I think it was Morayshire featured in it.... a Scots engine in a Scottish setting, nice touch

I seem to recall the 2008 version featured a GWR locomotive, which whilst pleasing for a GWR enthusiast like myself, takes a bit of explaining!

The original film with Robert Donut featured the Flying Scotsman hauled by an A3.....only to be displaced further up the line by a GWR loco............

the 1970's version used an ivatt 2mt mogul on the SVR, with the Britania bridge being used for the scene where Richard Hanney exits the train.

There's also an appearance by an NBR Atlantic at one stage.

It is likely to have been the Robert Donat version which was on BBC2 over the Christmas period.

In which case I'm pretty sure that Morayshire wasn't in it. The 2008 version starring Rupert Penry-Jones would be a better bet for seeing the preserved D49.

the latest one with Rupertsomething-hyphen as Hannay. Pretty sure it was Morayshire, quite distinctive.

Haven't watched that one in a while so don't recall the specifics but there aren't that many apple green locos to chose from so a good chance it's the D49.

In the book which was set in 1914. Richard Hannay travelled from St Pancras - Leeds - Dumfries where he changed on to a train for Newton Stewart but got off before the destination.

I think there were 3 film versions, the 1939 one in B/W, the 1959 one in colour taken in KX & the Forth Bridge etc featuring A4's (the best version in my opinion), & the 1970's one filmed on the SVR, a bit artificial in my view.

Correct, the first starring Robert Donat, the second Kenneth More and the third with Robert Powell in the starring role as the hero of the day.

The most recent one was AFAIK made for television only so arguably three film versions and one TV version but that's probably splitting hairs.

i thought the 1970's version rather good, changes frm the original novel but the costumes were spot on, as were the cars and plane, shame the train was off though......only 30 and a bit years out.
