Aren't the fall plate arrangements different - or is that where BR got their design from?

42968 ran with 45110's tender for a while including a stint on Network Rail so there is a precedent for unusual LM pairings where the items are compatible.

I think Stanier locos had common tender connections, many of his designs had large & small tenders, even Princess Royals had small tenders in the early days. Ivatt locos are a different kettle of fish.

Just looking at the plan views of the Ivatt tender, it looks similar to the tenders attached to Standard class 3 and 2 engines, ie BR2, BR2A, and BR3. As others have said though, the devil will be in the detail, ie fall plates and the like.

What about a Ivatt Micky mouse tender?

    75069's tender is presumably available?

Photo's on the web of an Ivatt 4MT cab show the fall plates attached to the cab floor, so not easily compatible with a BR tender where they are fixed to the tender front IIRC. But then the SVR guys obviously realise that!

its looking like it will have to be a ivatt tender as those are the nearest with only 4" difference. 75069's tender is having work done

Back to the derailment of 43106's tender.

The latest issue of "SVR News" contains the following under "Boardroom Notes": -

"The Rail Accident Investigation Board quickly established the cause as a combination of a spring of incorrect specification with track twist approaching safe limits, which is seen as having implications across the heritage movement. The RAIB investigation continues, while the SVR has set up its own internal enquiry to establish what needs to be done to avoid a recurrence."

Reading this months RM there is an article about the derailment of 43106. According to the report there was two factors that caused the derailment
    1. A tender spring had been replaced by a incorrect type.
    2. The track had become distorted without track maintenance staff being aware of the problem.

Incorrect tender springs have caused a number of derailments over the years and it is for this reason that 53809 is stopped on the NYMR at the moment - it has a broken tender spring and there isn't a spare available. Various springs borrowed from other out of traffic Fowler tenders have been tried but have been found not to give the correct weight distribution.

Happily, the problem with 53809 seems to have been resolved as it is diagrammed to be out this weekend.
