Hmm if we could disguise the dome, then drop a brass cover over the top feed, borrow a Fowler tender, this may be our next new look =D>

    But in red ! \:D/

That would be great, if only it would happen ! If I had a quid for everytime someone asked "is that Train of yours finished yet?" I would be a lot richer !
Better to chat and hint that "it/he/she" is called a locomotive ! I'm sure that eventually we will conquer the world !

Well, she made it, but not without some nail biting. After the shareholders special she had a warm big end so returned to the shed where the rod was removed and given attention. She returned about 1.30pm and performed all afternoon. It was good to see old friends re-united to enjoy her entry to traffic.

    Cheers
    Dave

Some very good publicity on BBC local news here in the East Midlands last night with a clip of the 8F in steam and interviews with a number of very chuffed people. Despite the obvious (to us) referrals to train rather than locomotive, I thought the coverage was very good and it was even explained that 8624 was restored in a "new colour" usually painted on "coaching stock" which I think were the actual words used. So, in summary, nice one 8624! On a slightly different hue (!) I spent most of today cleaning a boilerless 28xx with a pale green boilered 8f (8274) positioned buffer to buffer with ours in deepest Gloucestershire. These multicoloured 8Fs are certainly getting around! There was also a red "Hall" masquerading as a "Castle" and, later this afternoon, we were all treated to the spendid sound and sight of the BBMF's Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane flying right "over the top" low and slow. It was a surreal day but does it get any better? Well, when our boiler is reunited with the rest of our loco later this year I guess! Glad you guys with 8624 had a good day too.

You've got a great bit of kit there, had a few rides today, and its appears to be an excellent relflection of the work done on it. =D>

As for the livery... it looks gorgeous and suits it really well (personally think the vents and the back of the coal space would look better in black ala 5690 6233 etc but who cares!)

Would love to have a ride again when you've run in a bit more and you're ready to let her bark more!

Slight thread drift but, as per my last post, one pale green 8F (LMS 8274 also ex-WD), one red "Castle" (Hall) and the oldest GWR standard gauge loco not in state ownership now awaiting its boiler.

Alan Taylor has given me permission to give the link to his video on Youtube of 8624's first day in service http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRYkqQgZsqQ - most enjoyable. The photo is of the man himself, but obviously for reasons of national security we can't reveal his face :).
As a bonus about 4 minutes in you can see young Ben promoting the Darley Dale footbridge project.
    Cheers

Any idea when 8624 will be working again? I couldn't make it last weekend (thanks to Network Rail digging up the southern end of the Midland Main Line).

Hopefully quite soon,as last weekend proved we need to do much more running in.We're taking the drivers side con rod off this weekend to check the same thing hasn't happened to it as had happened to the firemans side last week.
We'll let you know as soon as we can when she'll be back in traffic.
Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support,it's nice to know we pleased some people.

From comments overheard in the Matlock station shop this week it would appear that Peak Rail had a bumper three days in terms of visitors and revenue.
