Like I said, it should look rather handsome!

Totally non-authentic of course, but so what?

I suppose to match the Peak Rail BR Mk1 maroon stock, you can just use the same paint.... :-#

Will be great to see it back in steam.

Excellent idea - with PR crests on the tender of course? Will bring back happy memories of my turns on 41241 at the KWVR in the '70's =D>

Lets hope it is only a wind up as 8Fs should only be black...or WD livery...

In fact all engines should be black...it works on German and Chinese engines and they are the best left!

I suppose April 1st isn't too far away, but I hope it is being turned out in LMS passenger livery, just so we can see how it "fits" on an 8F.

Anyway as ever it is "owner's choice". It will be good to see another useful ex-Barry loco brought back to life.

...now, where are those "parts" from Turkey for another 8F restoration....?

Stick it in passenger livery or any other kind that 8Fs were never in then you'll have the whingers giving it all their best on how they should have it in unlined black..

Do we really want another loco just overhauled the 'Scotsman treatment'? #-o

Of course it's the owners perogative to paint and use his asset however he wishes, personally i find it odd to put painstakingly large amounts of time and money into something only to turn it out looking downright bizare, each to their own i suppose.

with due respect but no one has said it's going LMS Maroon . Maybe it's a primer (a number of lines seem to favour a nice apple green version ) or an initial base coat on top of which will go Black. So why is everyone whipping themselves into such a lather . Be patient and wait and i', looking forward to a trip to the peak to see it

I have to agree 100% with Martin here.

An example of this can be found within our wagon group on the Mid-Hants. We were given a load of ex MOD paint a few years ago . It wa goos quality stuff and you could have any colour you wanted as long as it was khaki.

The point I am trying to make is that it came at the best possible price, IT WAS FREE, and did very well to build up some body on vehicles that had not seen a lick of paint for years.

Why does a livery debate always raise the blood pressure?, please remember the unwritten rule in preservation please folks, "They who restore always get the first chouce of livery".

    Regards
    Chris Willis

On the metal sheet forming the back of the coal space you can see Red Oxide metal primer. (always looks orange to me) Usually after a coat or two of this you'd go for some grey undercoat (again normally 2 layers) and then two top coats of Black or Green, or what ever..... at least this is the practice I follow.

Why grey undercoat? Seems to work well under black. The undercoat used on 48624 is obviously a red of sorts, but no reason this won't work under black also. Could be as mentioned above, lots of undercoat left over or some donated free/cheap. Maybe it is a red/maroon paint job on it's way. Only those working on it know for sure.

I can't wait to see what they do with it. Would be interesting if it weren't unlined black. I don't think it would matter a hell of a lot what colour it was if it's based at Peak rail. They need to do what ever will best sell the railway to the passing tourist!

Absolutely correct. And for those of us who've been members and shareholders since the mid-70's it will welcomed with open arms whatever colour it's painted. We remember fondly the vision of "Steam in the Peak" and how that has steadily become "Diesels in the Dales".

No "lather" here folks, it is the owners choice, not mine.

I just offer credit where credit is due to a group who have laboured for many years out in the open in all weathers to restore a Barry wreck.

Perhaps the maroon is undercoat for BR black, but to be honest if they do turn it out in maroon it will be a first for an ex-LMS goods engine, (AFAIK) and as I said earlier, I suspect it will look rather good!

Bring it on, be it black or maroon. Well done to the team at Rowsley.

I think that's a slightly misleading. It's not open to passengers, just as loop IIRC. The platform surface, edging etc all need attention yet.

Not so: 16410 - I think 16440 was also marooned and possibly also 13000.

I thought the instructions were all trains to stop at DD down platform from 1 March and guards to ensure doors unlocked on the west side, but I haven't been there to witness it yet.

its open to passengers, trains stop in the platform, theres still a fair amount of work to do, errect the lamps, signs, fencing etc and a proper tarmaced top surface, the surface now is temporary make do and mend as with most heritage platfroms, consall, etc etc

time will see better improvements when the other projects free up staff etc. ](*,) :-k :-k =D> #-o 8-[
