Perhaps a Visit Shap by Orient Express could be organised with 35028?

Though personally I think they'd need to take Braunton along as newly-certified banker, just in case.
And wait for a dry day, of course.

I am no engineer, but here goes! A system will need to comply with Group Standards and be fitted and maintained in accordance with those standards - i.e. design, installation and maintenance need all to comply with standards (and have this proven by records).

(Not a 100% sure that will actually help!)

That one passed under the radar, I'm afraid. However, there hasn't been one up Shap for a while.

Pretty sure the last Bulleid up Shap was your favourite Spamcan which disgraced itself at Oxenholme...

Was it really as long ago as 34027 that one went up all fine ?.

Exactly, it didn't quite make it to Shap. Damn cork! Anyway, back to the subject of the thread...

absolutely not. was talking to a well known railtour organiser recently who was saying that when his company took a MN over there they were having to hold it back as it was just romping off. needed reining in!

Now I love Bulleids, real ones preferably, but if an MN had to be held back over Shap then 6233 recent record breaking run must have been achieved on half regulator and in mid gear.

remember all LMS fans that when 35026 lamport and holt line took a railtour over shap in the mid 60's it was odds on to break steam speed record over shap but mardy LMS orientated signalman not wanting his LMS allegiances to be embarrassed looped it behind a slow freight! pathectic!

Best book some annual leave around then in that case :D

Great to see the engine coming back together. Let the age of the 7MT begin.

going slightly off line, the only way the duchess x merchant navy question is going to be answered is for a blue ribbon type of trail over shap to be run over two weekends using the same stock, so that the trailing load is identical with drivers and firemen who know these engines best and lets see the results, i wonder how about enlarging it to include any other suitable 7p at a later date, say maybe, 70000 and 70013 and braunton vs tangmere any ideas?

Does anyone with Crewe/LNWR connections care to comment on just how extensive the rebuild of 70000's firebox was? I recall seeing images somewhere of it seriously dismantled, and Pete on his blog mentions ..."the new boiler in steam"... alongside images of the out of frames steam test?
Has it had pretty much a new inner copper firebox?

    Thanks

I would be surprised, as I was under the impression that locomotives overhauled at Crewe tended to go to the Churnet Valley Railway for running in (as it is close to Crewe). Mind you, stranger things have happened so never rule it out!

I would say there is an good chance of it being based with 60019 at Southall though.

    Regards,

    Dan

when at southall 60019 is under the care of WCCR and nothing to do with any other body but her main base is at ropley 70000 should only be based at southall under the same reasoning , that of being stabled there when on mainline duties,

From what I have heard 'on the ground' it was suggested as something nice to have, what with cromwell coming over the crossing but was very unlikely.
