Via Bath?! Is there a possession on the direct route between Bristol and Taunton tonight then?

    Regards,

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

Britannia was 1 hour late at least when I turned up at Temple Meads, waited until c.9.55, and noticed that the hosepipe was being rolled up by the support crew. Station PA announced that the Steam Special was not going to stop in the station, but was going to head off to Bath and Westbury.

There were about 12 or more disappointed people packing up cameras soon afterwards. Had hoped to post a shot or two tonight....

Britannia was reported leaving Taunton at 01:48 for the WSR, having travelled from Bristol via Yatton and Bridgwater (not Bath and Westbury).

Not even the station announcer knew which way 70000 was heading. What a way to run a railway. <BJ>

Thanks for your comments about the video, I hope the support crew are getting some well deserved rest after that marathon run!

The last time I saw that loco. it was in a sorry state in Barrow Hill shed. I can remember the things in their prime, wafting along the N Wales coast on the Irish Mail turns.
Top marks to all involved in getting it back to looking, sounding, and going like that. To my untrained eye, there was a bit of "enthusiasm" on the footplate, great stuff, well done.:thumb:

Great efforts by all concerned, and thanks to those who were able to wait and take the videos and photos.

Does any one know why there appears to be a reluctance to have name plates fitted on test runs, Tangmere was the same?

It's not a reluctance to put a name plate on 70000 for its test run, it's a relectance to put a name plate on it (at least initially) whilst it is in black livery. It only carried a name plate after it had received its more familliar green livery.

A superb collection of videos. Thanks for posting them. I am now very tempted to book up her first run with SD now (Oxford - Canterbury).
