Just read that its 70013's last day in steam tomorrow before its ticket runs out..

Anyone got any info about what the future is for her?

Olly was the loco that re-kindled my interest in all things Steam about 7 years ago so sad for me if she doesn't steam again.

Here's some of my first pictures I took way back when..

I believe she will be stripped down and overhauled on the GCR.

A lot will depend on what the NRM plans for it are,
Either, the 5305 loco group will get a new loan agreement, then it will be down to them to decide to raise funds to get her another 10 year ticket
Or she will be recalled, to the NRM But they are busy down sizing the size of the national collection, so I would think most unlikely , unless the 5305 group have an eye on another loco in the national collection?

I believe the 5305 LA are going to overhaul the loco once again at the GCR.

Farewell to a superb loco. One of my favourite steam locos off all time.

My last footage of 2018 which also was Oliver Cromwell's last runs in service before withdrawal her overhaul in 2019. She was joined in her farewell honour by Black Five - 45305 both form part of the 5305 Locomotive Association. The shots you see were from a safe distance on public territory not the railway's territory. Let's hope her overhaul goes well. Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019. Hope you enjoy.

According to a committee member of the 5305 Locomotive Association, her custodians, there has been no communication from the NRM for them to overhaul her as of today 1st January 2019 and they have their fingers crossed they will get the go ahead to continue the work they’ve done in the past 14yrs for another 10yrs.

That's from his own post on the facebook group Steam Locos in Preservation this morning.

In other words, they don't know what the hell's going on (my interpretation). It seems that everything is up in the air about 70013's future and everything is waiting for the NRM to make their minds up.

Some pictures of Oliver Cromwell from yesterday. Has been great to see this engine in action for the last ten years, I remember seeing it at Bressingham as child when it looked like it would be just a museum piece for the foreseeable future. Thanks to the 5035 LA and NRM, I hope that this won't be the last time I see it in steam.

Bet you didn't have to go to hospital after seeing it at Bressingham like I did though....................(circa 1969!)

I was wondering at the earlier comments implying that overhaul was a given. Based on the latest accounts, 5305LA does not have much cash, and I am guessing it would be difficult to draft a compelling proposal within the NRM on the benefits of paying for another overhaul.

    Do tell...

70013 is the first steam locomotive I ever saw in the flesh. Must have been around 1984. I was just a toddler and it looked like a mountain of moving, hissing metal.

Still looks impressive to me as an adult lol

From memory, I had a cab ride in it with my Father, and after getting off the loco and watching it running up the short length of track at Bressingham, I managed to get a "foreign body" - i.e. grit/smuts - in my eye, so ended up being taken to Anglesea Road Hospital in Ipswich the following day to have it removed! (and missing a morning at school). I remember that I was in the first year at Junior school at the time, so that puts it as 1969.....
Have felt some affinity with that loco ever since, for some strange reason.
May have actually seen it in service whilst visiting my Mothers parents near Warrington in the 1960's, but can only remember "steam locomotives" going through Winwick Junction rather than spectific classes, given my age at the time. Same goes for generic "trolleybus trips" (Manchester/Ashton/Bournemouth/Walsall) in the same period!

I would have thought that the income from steaming fees for a national collection loco would be kept separately from the general funds of the 5305LA. They may have to be sent to the NRM, maybe someone will know the procedure.
I go back a bit further than some on NP, this is my first trip behind no 13 back in 1968, seen here at Stockport Edgerley

    One of the comments in question;

Michael Carr I’m sorry but I can’t keep my gob shut any longer! When we restored Cromwell we had the best team and worked long hours to achieve a miracle.
I’ve worked at the great central for 40 years this month and been involved with many restorations but the proudest day was when we ran it on its first service on the may bank holiday. We didn’ get the tubeplate until the last weeks of January.
5305 have cared for her along with sir Lamiel and 5305 on the main line and on many preserved lines for many years,we know what we are doing.
Cromwell will now join sir lamiel in Loughborough loco shed waiting for a decision on their future.
We have taken great care of all these national collection exhibits but we are currently being treated like amateurs and kept in the dark. You may get the impression that I am thoroughly pissed
off and you would be correct in that assumption. I have never been treated so badly in my 40 years in preservation.
I must say that I am an employee at gcr and a member of 5305 and I am not speaking for either of these organisations. These are my personal comments only

The NRM don't seem to come out of it with exactly glowing recommendations, You would think that it must be someone's job at the NRM to oversea loan agreements and to have agreements nailed down before an existing agreement finishes and a decision has to be made if the engine is then at the end of its ticket, it must make you wonder, if nothing has been decided over 777, and 70013, will the same impasse happen over 30120 ticket expires and the SWT can't get on with raising funds to give it an overhaul, because nothings been signed, perhaps is it because since coming under the Science Museum they have lost the experience of having working exhibits and loan agreements, instead adopting a policy of gifting items away because they don't fit in with the Science Museum way of doing things?
