One would hope that the original agreement document would leave little to interpretation ...

I hope the WHR are charging him for storing his half finished junk.

No doubt he could have helped out the railway preservation movement he cares so dearly about by funding the apprenticeship scheme out of his own deep pockets thus investing in and securing the future of his own business . I seem to remember him being all over the news complaining about the lack of skilled fitters available, and how the order book was overflowing at LNWR because of this. Perhaps this only matters to him up until the point he secures a large government handout.

I think that anyone who was involved with steam in the 60's knew the scale of work required on 49395, I loved the sound of these as they shunted coal wagons over the hump at Three Spires Junction.
This was pre Barry I believe it was stored in Leicester shed.

    Cheers Dave

I don't think anyone should be too hard on Pete Waterman. OK, he may have a lot more money than any of us on this forum (well, certainly a lot more than I have!) but he did fund the restoration of the Super D, he did put the first privately-owned heritage diesel onto the main line, and he has set up the centre at Crewe. Remember in 1995, he was one of the first people to try to run a series of main line steam excursions and got his fingers badly burned when the bookings for his "Torbay Expresses" were not sufficient to make their operation a viable proposition.

I guess there are plenty of us who feel a bit sad that 7027 seems to be nowhere near a return to running order, that 5553 and 5224 are parked out of use at Crewe (along with D172, so I believe) and that the work on 6634 has stalled, but we don't know all that is going on. There may be perfectly valid reasons for these locos not returning to steam at the moment.

When did that happen? I saw no sign of her when I visited the WHR at the end of December.

The WHR could well have a future need for it so doubt they view it as junk.

Last Thursday. Despite the failure of the 2010 restoration project I presume the WHR management forsee a fruitful outcome of some kind perhaps in the middle or distant future otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to store it.

Here is what the WHR apparently had to say on the subject:

No that is what Barrie and his isengard website have to say about it, none of what is posted on that site can be described as official, it is mainly his take on information that is picked up via mostly unofficial sources. It is sometimes interesting to see things you have written yourself end up on there with a slight twist to fit his thinking...

http://www.whrsoc.org.uk/WHRProject/109.html could be viewed as the more official line.

To be fair, most of what is there is common to both postings, it is only the last paragraph that is Barry's opinion, and it isn't an unreasonable piece of supposition.

I find it odd K1 is mentioned in the same way as the NG16's, certainly isn't up to NG16 duties on the the WHR!.
