Seen tonight in a layby off the A303 just east of Mere 80104 on a low lowder with nobody around her (that I could see) with just 2 red lamps for company.
Any ideas why she is there?

WSR gala is not until start of October we'll not need so many locos then so hopefully there should not be any problems at SR managing without 6695 for a couple of weeks.

I was surprised to see 80078 at the Swanage a week or so ago, i thought it was an SVR loco.

    Is it on loan?

80078 is a Southern Locomotives Ltd locomotive and is based at Swanage. 80079 is the loco you're thinking of.

Did 80078/80079 ever run as a pair together on the mainline?

Not in preservation, but they may have done when working on the LT&S in BR days. 80079 did however work with 80080 on the main line in preservation.

This is the only 80104 thread I have picked up through the thread name search facility.

Aplogies if there is a more current one, and if so could a kindly mod move me there please.

A number of very interesting recent posts on the 31874 thread where 80104 gets a mention. It does prompt me to ask if there is any sort of timescale (with all the usual caveats of course) when 80104 is hoped to be back in service please?

There's a recent update on the SLL website: https://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/News/news.html

Work on the boiler at Tyseley is nearly complete. Many components have been moved to Herston of repair. The bunker has to be lifted and moved to Herston, and some repair is needed at what would be below the bunker. The chassis should return to Herston in a couple of months. The locos should be back in service in the first half of 2025.

Nick, many thanks for that, I do check the SLL website from time to time, but you've updated me on that. Be nice to see a second BR Std 2-6-4t in service in the South - I think 80078 is due to be at the Spa Valley Railway later this year.
